The story begins with the protagonist, Tsuyama Makoto, a seemingly ordinary high school student, experiencing a brutal betrayal. He is stabbed through the heart by a classmate, an act met with cruel laughter and satisfaction from his peers who resented him. As his life fades, he sees the beautiful blonde princess who summoned them, her face contorted in malice, which strangely fills his dying heart.
Makoto awakens in a classroom during a break, reading a light novel about isekai (otherworldly) transfer. Suddenly, the floor glows blue, and he and his entire class are enveloped in white light, finding themselves in an unfamiliar, opulent hall. They realize they have been summoned to another world. Makoto, ever the pragmatist, immediately checks his status, discovering he possesses the skills "Translation" and "Contract." The "Contract" skill is particularly potent, allowing him to enforce promises with dire consequences for the breaker, even death. However, this powerful skill consumes most of his magic, leaving him with a seemingly low magic stat of 30 out of a potential 300.
The summoned students learn from the First Princess, Topazion (Shion), that they are needed to defeat a Demon Lord. She explains that returning to their world requires defeating the Demon Lord, as their kingdom lacks the magic to send them back. The students are initially excited by the prospect of becoming heroes, but Makoto, aware of his limited abilities and the potential dangers, uses his "Contract" skill to negotiate with King Yanuauri. He secures guarantees for their safety, livelihood, and freedom in exchange for their participation in combat training. This act, however, alienates him from many classmates who perceive him as arrogant and self-serving, particularly Ichinari Takatoshi, the class representative.
The following days are filled with training. Makoto's low stats and single skill make him a target for bullying by classmates like Takuma Kyosuke, while the kingdom's officials, including Princess Shion, subtly manipulate the situation to isolate him further. Despite the constant abuse and the kingdom's machinations, Makoto diligently trains, his stats slowly improving. He discovers that his "Contract" skill is exceptionally powerful, even affecting beings of higher status, and that his seemingly low magic stat is a result of the skill's immense drain. He also learns that some classmates possess special "Hero" or "Follower" skills, like Ichinari (a Hero) and Asahi Minori (a Knight).
One month into their stay, Makoto's situation deteriorates drastically. His former attendant, Arcus, is found murdered, and Makoto is framed for the crime due to his "Contract" skill and the kingdom's manipulation. Ichinari, swayed by the kingdom's narrative and Makoto's perceived arrogance, challenges him to a duel. Makoto, accepting his fate and driven by a desire for revenge against those who betrayed him, faces Ichinari without a weapon. He is quickly defeated and killed by Ichinari's superior skills and stats.
In the aftermath of his death, Makoto's soul is approached by a god who offers him a chance to be reborn in a new world. The god reveals that the current world is on the brink of collapse due to the misuse of elemental spirits and the constant interdimensional summons. Makoto, now a demigod named Finis, is tasked with rescuing these spirits. He is given a new body, that of an Ancient Elf, and a vast array of skills, including those of his former classmates, making him incredibly powerful. His primary goal is to collect the six elemental spirits before the world's destruction, with the promise of his own safety and the ability to choose his fate afterward. He also learns that the kingdom's plan was to use the summoned heroes as tools to conquer other nations and consolidate power, a plan that Makoto's initial actions disrupted. The story ends with Finis embarking on his new mission, the fate of his former classmates and the world hanging in the balance.
