The story begins with the protagonist, a dedicated FPS gamer named Saito Ren (operating under the player name "Schwartz"), immersing himself in the popular VR shooter game "Virtual Reality Multiple Battlefield" (VMB). While playing a solo PvE mode in the "Sky Garden" stage, he is unexpectedly defeated and falls off the map. Instead of returning to his personal room as expected, he awakens in a grassy field, disoriented and realizing he is no longer in VMB. His in-game equipment, including his MP5A4 and Tactical Support System (TSS), is still with him, but game functions like news and mail are inaccessible, displaying only errors.
Confused but intrigued by the possibility of a hidden stage, he ventures into a nearby forest. There, he encounters living insects, a phenomenon impossible in VMB, further solidifying his suspicion that he is in a different reality. He then spots three humanoid figures, which he identifies as goblins, a creature not present in VMB. This realization leads him to conclude he has been transported to another world, a common trope in light novels he enjoys. Armed with his VMB weaponry, he cautiously follows the goblins, witnessing them capture a woman.
He tracks them to a cave, where he uses his M1911A1 pistol to eliminate two goblins. He also learns that Ashley is a guild investigator from the "Kurtmelga Kingdom" and is investigating a goblin infestation. They are joined by Ashley's senior, Remi, a seasoned warrior.
Remi and Ashley escort Schwartz to the city of Valga, where he is registered as an adventurer under the name "Schwartz Powder" and his origin is listed as "VMB." The registration process reveals the world's currency system and a mandatory tax system, which Schwartz, as an outsider, struggles to navigate. He learns about the adventurer ranking system and the concept of "Explorers" who delve into dungeons. The guild officials are suspicious of Schwartz due to his lack of background and unique equipment, but his perceived lack of malice and his assistance lead them to allow him to register.
The narrative then shifts to Schwartz and Ashley traveling by carriage to Valga. They are attacked by "Grass Wolves," which Schwartz swiftly dispatches using his VMB skills, further baffling Remi and Ashley. Upon arriving in Valga, a large, fortified city surrounded by dungeons, Schwartz is directed to register as an adventurer. The registration process is complex, with many fields left blank due to his lack of knowledge about this world. He is assigned a rank of G and a significant tax debt, which he manages to defer by agreeing to pay it from future adventurer earnings. The story ends with Schwartz and Ashley heading to the guild hall to process the goblin mage's trophy and prepare for their next steps in this new world.
