The story begins with the protagonist waking up in a hospital bed, disoriented and realizing with shock that he has somehow been transformed into a woman. His voice is higher, he has developed breasts, and his male anatomy is gone, while his hair has grown significantly. He discovers his new name is Kotonone Kisaragi from a nameplate. A nurse informs him that he attempted suicide due to despair, which he vehemently denies, recalling he was poisoned at work. This triggers a flood of memories, revealing he has transmigrated into the body of Kotonone Kisaragi, a spoiled and arrogant young woman from a prestigious family who recently attempted suicide after being disowned and kicked out of her mansion.
Kotonone, now inhabited by the protagonist's male consciousness, is discharged from the hospital due to her family's request, despite her weakened state. She decides to live independently and immediately seeks a part-time job to manage her finances, as her allowance is insufficient. She finds a part-time job at a cafe run by a kind couple, Takato and Saori Tachibana, and their daughter Kaori. Kotonone's honest and practical demeanor, a stark contrast to her former self, impresses them, and she begins working there. She also makes a good impression on her neighbor, Akane Sato, a nurse who offers her support and culinary advice.
The narrative then shifts to Kotonone's first day at school, a large private academy. Her reputation as a spoiled heiress precedes her, and her classmates are wary. However, her changed demeanor and the assistance of her new friends, Kaori and Aiba Miyako, begin to shift perceptions. Kotonone's academic performance, previously abysmal, dramatically improves thanks to her diligent studying and the help of her friends, who are impressed by her detailed notes.
The story takes a darker turn when Kotonone becomes the target of a malicious plot. Her belongings are destroyed, and she is physically assaulted, pushed down the stairs by Shizune Utsuki, a girl from a powerful family who was Kotonone's former associate. Kotonone, despite her injuries, bravely faces the situation, supported by her friends and a few sympathetic teachers, including Mr. Kondo and the school nurse, Ms. Saeki. The school principal, Mr. Satsuki, intervenes, and with irrefutable evidence from surveillance footage and forensic analysis, Shizune and her accomplice are suspended.
Kotonone's mother, Tomoha, who had previously disowned her, appears and expresses pride in Kotonone's transformation and newfound maturity. The principal reveals that Kotonone's mother had anticipated such issues and had made arrangements for Kotonone's safety and future. The story concludes with Kotonone embracing her new life, determined to forge her own path, supported by her growing circle of friends and the understanding of her family.
