Chapters 3 through 12 of the light novel detail the tragic abandonment of a newborn infant and the subsequent perilous journey of an adventurer party, culminating in a violent encounter with a mysterious young man and a powerful spirit.
The narrative begins with a heartbroken couple in a misty forest at dawn. The wife pleads with her husband not to abandon their month-old baby, whose black eyes and hair are considered signs of a cursed "imiko" (cursed child) by royal decree. Despite the wife's anguish, the husband insists they must, fearing the child will bring disaster upon them and the town. He apologizes, explaining it's a royal command and he doesn't want to endanger everyone. The wife tearfully embraces her child one last time, vowing never to forget them.
The story then shifts to the "Demon Mist Forest," a dangerous area with high magic concentration, poor visibility, and powerful monsters. Despite the risks, an experienced adventurer party, consisting of the leader and shield-bearer Kama, the scout Tymer, the mage Seine, and the healer Tysis, is exploring. They are low on supplies but have managed to defeat a Jewel Tree, a rare plant bearing fruits that increase magical power. During the fight, Tysis warns Seine not to damage the precious fruits or use fire magic. They successfully defeat the tree, securing three fruits, and decide to retreat to report their findings.
As they prepare to leave, Tymer senses an approaching presence. A young man, appearing to be around fifteen, with black eyes and black hair, confronts them. The adventurers recognize him as an "imiko" and are wary of his light attire and lack of weapons. The young man, who claims this area as his territory, demands they leave the fruits, threatening to kill them if they refuse. The adventurers, identifying themselves as the A-rank party "Will-less Demon Swords," refuse. The young man, revealed to be Vilm, then summons a powerful fire spirit, Blaze Fenrir. Despite Seine's powerful "Death Inferno" magic, Vilm and Blaze Fenrir are unharmed. The spirit, enraged by the destruction of the forest, brutally kills Tysis by impaling her with an arm, then incinerates Seine and crushes Tymer. Kama, witnessing the carnage, is left in shock before being swiftly killed by Blaze Fenrir. Vilm and Blaze Fenrir then meticulously erase all traces of the adventurers.
Later, Vilm and Blaze Fenrir are shown returning to their home, the Spirit Village, where they are greeted warmly by other spirits and fairies. Vilm's mother, the Spirit Queen Satia, expresses her relief at his safe return. Vilm then reports to Satia about the intruders and the protection of the village.
The narrative then follows a group of slave traders, led by a man named Raid, who are transporting two captured girls, an elf named Meludina and a bull-human named Kuna, through the Demon Mist Forest. Vilm, observing them, devises a plan to lure them deeper into the forest to avoid alerting outsiders to the Spirit Village's location. He approaches Raid, offering a large sum of gold and jewels for protection during his "contract" with spirits. Raid, initially suspicious, agrees after Vilm demonstrates his power by summoning a powerful earth spirit named Radia.
However, Vilm's true intentions are revealed when he orders Radia to kill Raid and his mercenaries, who are then swallowed by a giant earth serpent. Vilm then frees Meludina and Kuna, revealing he had previously treated Kuna for a magical ailment. He offers them a choice: join him and be protected, or face death. Meludina and Kuna agree to go with him.
Upon returning to the Spirit Village, Vilm's mother, Satia, is overjoyed to see him safe and the girls protected. She tasks Vilm with escorting Meludina, Kuna, and their water spirit, Mizelio, back to the outside world to ensure their safety and prevent the Spirit Village's location from being revealed. The chapters conclude with the group preparing for their departure, while Satia tearfully bids farewell to her son.
