Yuto Azora, a 16-year-old Japanese boy, is reincarnated in the world of Laruatos as the immensely powerful Overlord of demons. Despite his cheat-like stats (Lv999, maxed abilities, countless spells), Yuto, who aspired to be a hero, is dismayed by his "evil" role and the potential to destroy the world. His primary subordinate, Anri, a beautiful and fiercely loyal demon general, constantly misinterprets Yuto's kindness as displeasure, leading to repeated threats of suicide and extreme overprotectiveness. Anri views humans as "pests" and is eager for their extermination, effectively confining Yuto to his vast Overlord's Castle.
Seeking to align his actions with his human morality, Yuto attempts to free his Overlord Army (over 10,000 demons). However, his declaration of dissolution is misinterpreted as a test of loyalty, causing the demons to reaffirm their zealous devotion. Soon after, a human army of 50,000 approaches. Yuto intervenes, intending to merely scare them away with a minor spell, but accidentally unleashes catastrophic power, obliterating the entire army and scorching the land. Anri is ecstatic, further cementing Yuto's image as a terrifying Overlord, much to his internal horror and remorse.
Guilt-ridden, Yuto tries to subtly shift Anri's anti-human views, but his efforts backfire, leading to even more derogatory terms for humans. Anri's zealous loyalty also creates awkward situations, like offering young maid demons as "night companions." Yuto, a virgin, cleverly uses his "Creation" spell to produce playing cards, claiming he desired "night *play* companions," preserving their innocence.
Bored and determined to do good, Yuto escapes the castle using a created doll as a decoy and "Teleportation." He uses "Clairvoyance" to find a human village under bandit attack. Despite his heroic intervention, effortlessly dispatching bandits and protecting villagers with an "Absolute Barrier," his revelation as the Overlord terrifies the populace. To improve his image, he makes them chant praises. When villagers insist on a reward, Yuto jokingly points to Rina, a 16-year-old slave girl. To his shock, they eagerly hand her over.
Yuto immediately regrets this, but Rina reveals her traumatic past as a slave, sold by her parents and abused. Enraged by the villagers' cruelty, Yuto secretly casts "Earthquake," causing destruction in the village. He then uses "All-Purpose Healing" to erase Rina's scars, bringing her genuine joy. Yuto promises to care for her, teleporting her to his bedroom for safety.
Upon returning, Yuto discovers Anri attempting suicide, having realized he left the castle (by detecting the doll's lack of his scent) and believing he had abandoned her. Yuto saves her, reassures her, and lies about "killing humans for fun" to maintain his image. The chapter concludes dramatically as Anri enters Yuto's bedroom, immediately detecting Rina's human scent hidden in the closet, setting the stage for a major confrontation.
