The protagonist, a man with a notoriously unlucky disposition, dies after being hit by a truck while chasing a thief who stole his sister's birthday gift. He finds himself in a white space between life and death, confronting a "Life and Death Guide" who reveals his death was instantaneous and caused by a severe impact. The Guide explains that the protagonist's extreme misfortune, forty times the normal amount, was due to a clerical error in his reincarnation process, compounded by his high luck value which prevented his soul from being easily collected. This extreme misfortune had been partially mitigated by "life trajectory corrections" performed by the Guide, preventing him from suffering worse fates like wrongful imprisonment or losing his job.

However, the unusual combination of attributes and the high luck value, along with a surprisingly high magic power, raises some suspicion and concern among his family, particularly his father. Siegbert's mother, Lia, a beautiful and loving woman, is more accepting of his unique nature. The family decides to publicly disclose only his magical attributes, keeping his other extraordinary abilities a secret to protect him. Siegbert, now aware of his family's status and the world's magic system, resolves to navigate his new life, aiming to eventually become an adventurer to explore the world.
