The protagonist, a reincarnated Japanese high school student, finds herself as seven-year-old Cecil Aldington in a world that mirrors her favorite otome game, "Bloody Mind." Her past life ended tragically in a traffic accident at seventeen, and she is determined to avoid a similar fate, especially since Cecil is a rival character destined to be killed by various love interests in the game.
Cecil's primary motivation is survival. She recalls the game's plot points, including the six capture targets: Gray (student council president, prone to confinement), Rufre (a kuudere classmate with a possessive bad end), Alex (a ditzy vice president whose possessiveness turns violent), Rudolf (a new teacher who isolates the heroine), Ashley (a hidden character and Cecil's future attendant), and an unknown hidden character. Cecil learns that her own character, Cecil Aldington, is a haughty and self-centered noble daughter who bullies the heroine and is frequently killed.
A turning point occurs when Cecil's father brings home six-year-old Ashley Carlyle, the son of a deceased former servant, to be Cecil's attendant. Cecil is terrified, knowing that Ashley's route in the game involves him suffering severe abuse from Cecil, leading to his eventual murder of her. To prevent this, Cecil resolves to be kind to Ashley, despite her fear. She establishes rules for him, emphasizing his freedom and encouraging him to be honest with his feelings, while also asking him to protect her only if the first two conditions fail.
Over the next few years, Cecil and Ashley develop a complex relationship. Ashley, initially withdrawn and emotionally scarred, gradually opens up, showing exceptional intelligence and talent in academics and magic. He also exhibits a tsundere personality, often being cold and critical of Cecil, yet clearly caring for her. Cecil, in turn, tries to foster a healthy relationship, encouraging Ashley's growth and expressing her affection, though she often struggles with her own fears and the game's predetermined narrative.
A significant event is the death of Cecil's mother when Cecil is thirteen. This deeply affects both Cecil and Ashley, strengthening their bond as they grieve together. Cecil also encounters Ozwell Arclight, a classmate who seems suspiciously friendly and potentially a hidden character. She also receives a letter from Gray, who reveals he is also a reincarnated individual and warns Cecil of impending danger at the academy, suggesting they cooperate to uncover the truth about the hidden character.
Later, Sarah Cosgrove, a friend of the heroine Leila Morton, visits Cecil, claiming Leila is dangerously obsessive and "abnormal," and asks Cecil to take Leila off her hands. Cecil is hesitant to get involved, especially with the potential for danger, but Sarah's desperation and the possibility of Leila being a threat lead Cecil to reluctantly agree to a limited form of interaction.
The narrative also introduces a new potential hidden character: Gray's adopted younger brother, who is set to enroll in the academy. This development further heightens Cecil's anxiety about the unknown dangers lurking within the game's world. The chapters detail Cecil's efforts to navigate her dangerous reality, her evolving relationship with Ashley, and her attempts to avoid the game's fatal plot points while uncovering new threats.
