The narrative begins with the protagonist, Fudatsuki Okina, reflecting on the common tropes of reincarnation, particularly the bestowal of special abilities or "cheat" powers in fantasy worlds. To his surprise, he finds himself reincarnated not into a fantasy realm, but back into modern Japan as a six-year-old child.
Okina clearly remembers his death: he sacrificed himself to shield a child from gunfire during a bus hijacking. Upon awakening in the afterlife, he encountered a deity who apologized for the accidental deaths of Okina and several other bus passengers. While others reacted with anger or despair, Okina remained remarkably calm, accepting his fate. The deity offered him reincarnation into another world with special abilities as compensation. Other passengers eagerly requested powerful abilities like immense magic, wealth, or immortality. Okina, however, requested two things: a strong, healthy body that would allow him to live a full life, and a second, unspecified ability. The deity, pleased with Okina's selfless act of saving a child, granted him two blessings.
Upon waking in his new six-year-old body, Okina confirms he is in modern Japan. He is relieved to be in a safe environment, though he initially expected a fantasy world. He tests his first blessing, a robust physique, and finds he can move with surprising ease and stamina, fulfilling his desire to pursue activities like mountain climbing. He also discovers his name is still Fudatsuki Okina, but his parents are new: his mother, Aoi, is a beautiful and gentle woman, and his father, Yuji, is a handsome, athletic former world champion swimmer who now runs a swimming school. Okina realizes this Japan is a parallel world, as familiar celebrities and media are absent.
Okina's second blessing, an "Item Box," is revealed to be far more powerful than he imagined. He can "collect" items, which are then stored in his inventory with an infinite quantity. Furthermore, collected items can be "deleted" from existence or "regenerated" to a pristine, new state. This "regeneration" ability is particularly astonishing, allowing broken or used items to be restored, though it doesn't restore internal contents. He also discovers that items are automatically ranked, with "F" being the lowest.
He begins to experiment with his abilities, collecting household items and discovering the "infinite" nature of collected objects. He learns that the rank is not solely based on monetary value, but also rarity. He also realizes that the Item Box freezes time for its contents, preventing spoilage or degradation. This leads him to consider future business ventures, like a cafe or an online food delivery service, but he decides to keep his powers discreet.
The narrative then shifts to Okina's interactions with his new family. He enjoys a meal with his parents and expresses a desire for a smartphone, which his mother supports, leading his father to agree to consider it. He also learns he will start elementary school soon, which he finds a bit tedious but resolves to enjoy.
Later, while exploring the town, Okina encounters a young girl named Hinobe Nakuru, who is wearing martial arts attire and appears dejected. Two equally handsome boys, one with silver hair and the other with red hair, suddenly appear, both claiming Nakuru as their own. Nakuru is confused and frightened, as she doesn't know them. The situation escalates when the red-haired boy attacks the silver-haired boy, startling Nakuru. She stumbles backward onto a stone and falls towards a river. Okina intervenes, saving her just in time. He then uses his abilities to create a pitfall, causing the red-haired boy to disappear.
Okina offers Nakuru a drink from his Item Box and confirms that his abilities are invisible to others. Nakuru explains that she is being pressured to inherit her family's ancient martial arts tradition, but she fears hurting people and wishes for a normal life with friends. Okina encourages her to express her feelings to her parents, emphasizing that family should support each other's desires. He offers to accompany her to speak with her parents, and Nakuru, touched by his offer, accepts. This marks Okina's first significant interaction with Nakuru, a character who will likely play an important role in his new life.
