The protagonist, Risa, a Japanese woman who was transported to another world six years prior, is living a peaceful life as the adopted daughter of the village chief in the remote village of Saru in the Kingdom of Alyus. Her quiet existence is disrupted when two priests from the capital arrive in a luxurious carriage, seeking her. They reveal that the capital received a letter from the village chief six years ago about an "otherworlder" but due to the village's extreme remoteness, the message only reached them six months prior.
The priests, Aigil (a minor priest) and his secretary Ernde, are dispatched to investigate. Risa, initially amused by the communication delay, is then subjected to a divine power test using a "divine power examination stone tablet." To everyone's shock, the tablet shatters, indicating Risa possesses at least the divine power of a high priest. This discovery leads to an immediate summons to the Central Cathedral in the capital.
During the journey to the capital, Risa witnesses the world outside her isolated village for the first time, marveling at its cities and architecture. Upon arrival, she is taken to the Central Cathedral and undergoes another divine power test with a larger stone. This time, the stone also breaks, confirming her immense, uncontrolled divine power, which the priests believe was awakened by the first stone. Risa is then informed that she has destroyed the residence of the Grand Priest.
To avoid severe punishment, Risa is offered a mission: to travel and select a suitable bride for the Grand Priest, who is looking for a woman with strong divine power and specific physical attributes. She is given a month to train in etiquette and then sent on her mission, accompanied by two knights from the Grand Temple Knight Order, Sergei and Allen, who are chosen for their good looks.
Risa's first assignment takes her to the city of Rigal, west of the capital, where she is to assess potential candidates. She is accompanied by Sergei, a charming and overly familiar knight, and Allen, a stoic and reserved knight. Upon arriving at the Rigal temple, Risa is presented with eight candidates, five of whom meet the criteria, including a young woman named Latoya. However, Latoya is quickly dismissed by the Grand Priest, who finds her hair color unacceptable.
Risa's mission continues, and she is tasked with visiting other temples to find suitable candidates. She struggles with the Grand Priest's specific and often contradictory criteria for a bride, which seem to prioritize personal preference over divine power. Her journey is marked by encounters with various individuals, including the eccentric Sergei, the stoic Allen, and the stern but ultimately helpful teacher, Kim. Risa also learns about the world's history and customs, including the "sacred ground of birth cry," a crater formed by the Grand Priest's divine power at birth.
The narrative follows Risa as she navigates her unusual mission, facing challenges and making difficult decisions, all while trying to understand her own burgeoning powers and her place in this new world. She begins to question the Grand Priest's motives and the true nature of his requirements, all while trying to avoid causing further destruction with her uncontrolled divine power.
