The daughter of a rural clinic, situated near the border and whose only noteworthy feature was a nearby fort, is one evening practically abducted and taken to the fort by a knight with a grim expression. Accompanying the captain, a hero hailed for saving the nation, to the fort, she witnessed the knights, including the captain himself, writhing in agony.

With no military doctor present, and seeing the knights, accustomed to rigorous training, sobbing and begging for help, the 23-year-old woman, who felt she was past her prime, made up her mind.
