At ninety years old, the small, cheerful farmer Feard, a former hero who survived the "dark age" of the Great Demon King, decides to embark on a final journey. His motivation is to see the faces of his old comrades, his son, grandson, and especially his great-grandson, before his remaining years run out. His equally aged wife and lifelong companion, Erurika, a former hero renowned for her beauty, readily agrees. After sending letters to their acquaintances via bird familiars and retrieving their old, cherished equipment (Feard's sword and shield, Erurika's staff and robe), they leave their secluded mountain home of seventy years.
Their journey begins with a discovery of the modern world: golem carriages, tireless vehicles powered by magic. The driver, Herman, is perplexed by the elderly couple's ignorance of such common technology, highlighting their long isolation. They arrive in Rianaldo, the "City of Wine," which has returned to its pre-war vibrancy, a stark contrast to its wartime role as a production hub for dangerous alchemical drugs. Their first stop is an alley, where they find Feard's best friend, Sasagi, the "Godspeed Sword Saint," perpetually drunk and sprawled on the ground.
Sasagi, despite his drunken facade, is a formidable warrior and mentor to a young boy named Karl, who aspires to be a strong swordsman for his siblings. Sasagi's immense power is dramatically revealed when Michael, an assassin seeking a rumored enhancement drug, attempts to kill him. Sasagi effortlessly disarms and defeats Michael in a blink, showcasing his legendary speed. Karl, having been invited to the prestigious Clovis style dojo (run by Sasagi's powerful disciple, Clovis), bids farewell to his eccentric master, who announces he's joining Feard's journey.
Sasagi, Feard, and Erurika decide to reform their old hero party, "Shining Star," much to Feard's embarrassment over the name. Their next destination is the magic city of Marguard, to meet Sasagi's wife, Lala. Sasagi is comically mortified because he accidentally sent Lala his "will," which was actually a heartfelt love letter. At Marguard's gate, an arrogant "Progressive Layer" mage attempts to cut the line, only to be humbled by Aldrick, a "Deep Layer" Archmage and one of Lala's disciples, who recognizes the legendary trio.
Meanwhile, Lala, the "Annihilation" Witch, receives Sasagi's embarrassing letter and Feard's invitation. She's amused and nostalgic, reminiscing about their hero party, a collection of powerful eccentrics. Her own immense power is demonstrated when Aldrick brings her a "Strategic-class Demon Summoning Book." Lala effortlessly summons and obliterates the city-sized demon, revealing her power to be beyond even the "Super-Deep Layer," a classification she calls the "Abyss Layer."
Finally, Feard, Erurika, and Sasagi reunite with Lala in Marguard. Lala playfully teases Sasagi about his "love letter," confirming Feard and Erurika's suspicions and delighting in his visible embarrassment. Lala agrees to join their journey, completing the core reunion of the legendary heroes. The chapter arc concludes with the "Shining Star" party, now four strong, ready to continue their journey, their legendary power and unique personalities undimmed by age, embarking on a new adventure to reconnect with their past.
