The narrative picks up with the protagonist, Phil Garden, a "Monster Tamer," standing before the formidable castle of the Demon King, Shira Blacklogia. Phil, who has faced skepticism and scorn for his perceived lack of talent and reliance on a "Slave," has overcome numerous obstacles with his trusted companion, Alice Nightwalker, a powerful and enigmatic "Nightwalker" also known as the "Queen of the Night." Alice, a being of otherworldly beauty and immense power, is fiercely loyal to Phil, promising to vanquish all foes.
Their objective is to defeat Shira, a top-tier, L-ranked Demon King whose destructive potential threatens the surrounding lands. Phil initiates the assault by ordering Alice to use her "Everblast" attack on the castle's gate. The ensuing battle is intense, with Alice unleashing a devastating beam of light. Phil, confident in his preparations and research into Shira's weaknesses, believes victory is assured. He reveals that Shira can only be harmed by the "Rusted Holy Sword," which he has acquired.
However, their meticulously planned assault falters when Shira, unharmed by Alice's attack, unleashes a devastating blast that obliterates the area where Phil stood moments before. Alice, sacrificing a significant portion of her life force, pushes Phil to safety, sustaining heavy damage. Phil, realizing the immense power disparity, decides to retreat, but Alice, in a display of overwhelming power, unleashes an unknown ability that engulfs the castle, causing a spatial distortion. Phil finds himself abruptly transported to a foreign land, separated from Alice.
He awakens in a bustling, technologically advanced city, a stark contrast to his homeland. The language, climate, and culture are all unfamiliar. His guild card, essential for identification and finances, is missing, and his considerable wealth was spent on preparing for the Shira battle. Stranded and penniless, Phil, a "Monster Tamer" who relies heavily on his Slave, is in a dire situation. He learns that his Slave, Alice, is not with him, and his "Astral Link," the spiritual connection to his Slave, is severed, indicating a severe separation or worse.
Phil, ever the pragmatist, decides to start anew. He learns that in this new land, Raven City, a hub for "Seekers" (adventurers), he must re-register with the guild. He encounters a mechanical guild employee named Tesla GN60346074B, whom he renames "Sayo." Sayo informs him that due to his lack of prior guild experience in this region, he must register as a new Seeker. Phil, despite his past achievements, is assigned the lowest rank, G-rank.
He learns that the local monsters are primarily highly advanced "Model Dogs," a significant challenge for a Seeker of his apparent caliber. He also discovers that his new Slave candidate, Am, a "Malevolent Spirit Race" (a type of "Nightmare"), is surprisingly weak and lacks basic combat skills, despite her high racial rank. Am's primary issue is her crippling fear and lack of confidence, exacerbated by her past failures and the inherent stigma of her race.
Phil, recognizing Am's potential despite her current state, decides to take her on as a temporary Slave, primarily because she is an "Evil Spirit Race," which he has experience with, and she is "cheap." He believes her "adaptability" might compensate for her weaknesses. He secures a loan from the guild by selling a valuable ring and prepares for their first mission: hunting Model Dogs.
During their journey to the hunting grounds, Phil attempts to train Am, but her fear and lack of control over her abilities, particularly her "Fear Aura" and "Life Drain," prove to be significant liabilities. He realizes Am is far weaker than she initially appeared, despite her high racial rank. He also learns that Am's "Nightmare" race is a B-rank, making her potential far greater than her current F-rank Seeker status suggests.
Despite Am's overwhelming fear and lack of combat experience, Phil decides to proceed with the mission, believing that facing challenges is the only way for her to grow. He instructs her to hunt two D-rank Model Dogs, a task that even Am admits is difficult for her. Phil, acknowledging his own lack of combat prowess, relies on Am's potential and his own strategic mind. He also learns that Am's "copper sword" is inadequate for the task.
The chapter arc concludes with Phil and Am heading towards their first hunt, with Phil determined to guide his new, albeit flawed, Slave, while Am grapples with her fears and the immense pressure of proving herself. The narrative sets the stage for a challenging first mission and the beginning of Phil's journey in this new world without his original powerful Slave, Alice.
