The story begins with Albert, a gargoyle, regaining control of his body after 1500 years of mental enslavement. His master, Demon Lord Ran, was killed in a war against Demon Lord Beria, breaking the subjugation magic. Albert, created by a now-deceased demon, had been forced into servitude after his creator was killed by Ran. He cherishes his newfound freedom, even the simple act of feeling the damp earth beneath his bare feet.
Seeking to avoid the aftermath of the war, Albert wanders into a nearby forest. He encounters a group of gargoyles discussing their plan to travel to the city of Fara, located south of Ran's territory. They intend to travel together for safety, as Wyverns inhabit the skies around the nearby Fara Mountains. Albert, eager to connect with his kin and improve his social skills, offers to join them. However, his plan is immediately thwarted when the gargoyles reveal they are leaving him behind because he lacks wings and cannot fly, deeming him a "piece of junk." Albert is left alone, his initial joy replaced by disappointment.
Albert reflects on his current predicament. He lost his wings during the war when Beria attacked him directly, though he survived due to his ancient status as one of the oldest gargoyles, having even fought ancient dragons. He realizes he needs to find food and contemplates his options: hunting monsters, going to Fara to find work, or stealing from Beria's army. He decides to head towards Fara, planning to hunt for food along the way.
During his journey, Albert encounters a young goblin named Daidarian and a slime named Baum. He saves them from three Wyverns using his water magic, "Water Barrier," and then swiftly defeats the Wyverns with his water blades, "Water Cutter." Albert is about to eat the raw Wyvern meat when Daidarian stops him, explaining that Wyvern meat is poisonous and requires a week of sun-drying after removing the organs. Daidarian offers to help process the meat using Baum, who can separate toxins, if Albert provides water for the weakened slime. Albert agrees, using his high-level water magic, "Tidal Wave," to revitalize Baum, which causes the slime to grow significantly larger.
After the Wyvern meat is detoxified and cooked by Daidarian, Albert shares the meal with them. He learns that Daidarian and Baum were also freed from Ran's subjugation magic. Daidarian's village was destroyed by Ran's forces, and he is returning to find survivors. Albert, touched by Daidarian's kindness and the village's plight, decides to accompany them to their village instead of going directly to Fara.
Upon arriving at Daidarian's village, they find it burned and ransacked, but with no bodies, suggesting survivors may have returned. They meet Mid, a young female goblin, and Sally, a Hobgoblin, who are survivors. Daidarian is reunited with his mother, Menad. Albert learns that the village was attacked by werewolves, Ran's subordinates, and that the survivors are hiding nearby. To protect the village from future werewolf attacks, Albert proposes using his "Water Barrier" magic to create a defensive dome. He explains that while the barrier prevents entry, it also prevents exit, but Baum, having been infused with Albert's water magic, can create a temporary portal for individuals to pass through. This solution allows the goblins to return to their village safely. The group then prepares to defend the village.
