The story begins with a chaotic scene: a young girl with white hair, later identified as Chloe, fiercely but clumsily wielding a black katana against monstrous beasts, her face etched with fear. This is a glimpse into her future.
The narrative then flashes back to Kuroe Akira, an introverted male university student, returning from a BBQ with his seminar members on a treacherous mountain road during a heavy storm. He's anxious about accidents, a feeling exacerbated by his outgoing, slightly insensitive childhood friend, Nagasawa Kouga, who is drunk and tries to engage him. The bus, driven by the calm Endou Hiroshi, narrowly avoids a massive rockfall caused by a lightning strike. However, their relief is short-lived as a massive fissure opens beneath the bus, sending it plummeting down a cliff. Kuroe is thrown from the vehicle, catching a glimpse of a muddy river before losing consciousness.
He awakens in a featureless white void, along with his nine seminar mates, all unharmed but confused. A mysterious, mechanical voice informs them they are dead, victims of an accident caused by its organization's error. As compensation, they are offered reincarnation into a new, magical world, a "special exception" granted by their "great master." The voice explains that their memories of death were erased for their comfort and rejects the idea of reviving them in their old world, citing a strict prohibition on resurrection.
The group undergoes a "test," where magic circles scan them, imbuing their minds with information about their new world abilities: an elemental "Attribute," a "Magic Aptitude Value" (all adjusted to be over 500, granting "Unique Magic"), and a "Roll" representing their destiny. Kouga is thrilled to be a "Hero" with Light attribute and 1000 aptitude. Endou becomes a "Martial Artist" (Water, 580), and Adachi Kento a "Traveler" (Wind, 660). Kuroe, however, is horrified to discover his results: Attribute "None," Aptitude "None," and Roll "Demon Lord." Ashamed and fearing he's an evil non-human, he lies to his friends, claiming to be a "Magic Swordsman" with Dark attribute and 1000 aptitude.
The voice then announces they will be reincarnated separately to prevent unforeseen complications. Dismayed, Kouga proposes they reunite in "the most prosperous city" in the new world, using their rolls and attributes as identifiers. The others share their results: Amagi Mika, a "Musician" (Lightning, 720); Tsuchida Shiori, an "Alchemist" (Earth, 800); Nogi Hifumi, a "Soldier" (Steel, 770); Inoue Iroha, a timid "Great Sage" (Wood, 900); Hikasa Ayaka, a feisty "Dragon Knight" (Fire, 820); and Shikishima Rei, a graceful "Miko" (Ice, 960). As they prepare for reincarnation, the white space intensifies, and Kuroe hears a human-like whisper from the voice, hinting at a conspiracy and his unique situation: "Finally, Kuroe-san. Your test... result's mystery, I... understand... However... a human body... I... prepared... May you have good fortune..." The voice is then cut off by an unknown force.
Kuroe awakens alone in a vibrant, unfamiliar forest, now a young girl named Chloe. She is initially in denial, but a reflection in a clear lake reveals her new form: white hair, red eyes, and distinctly pointed ears, confirming she is non-human. Overwhelmed by her gender and racial transformation, and the burden of her "Demon Lord" roll, she is suddenly attacked by two three-eyed wolves. Despite her small stature, her new body possesses incredible agility and stamina, allowing her to evade them until she trips and is injured. Cornered and defiant, she prepares for death, but is miraculously saved by two green wind-magic projectiles that kill the wolves. A young female voice calls out to her, but Chloe loses consciousness.
She dreams briefly of a serene landscape and a mysterious voice entrusting "that child" to someone. She then wakes in a soft bed in a clean, wooden room. She discovers she can understand the local language, which her Japanese is interpreted as "Elvish." A beautiful, golden-haired, green-eyed High Elf named Sara Elzearis enters, bringing food. Sara, a 200-year-old "Ziff's Guardian" who collects rare plants, had noticed the forest's unusual quiet before finding Chloe. As Chloe instinctively stands to help, Sara drops the tray, nosebleeds, and collapses, having seen Chloe's naked, undeniably female body. Chloe, finally confronted with her complete transformation, screams in utter confusion and embarrassment.
