Rubens Barrow, the first emperor of the Altania Empire, was a hero who unified the continent after hitting it off with the goddess Serena.

He met Serena in his early 20s, was captivated by her swordsmanship, and diligently trained under her as his master. In a short period, he became a master swordsman renowned across the continent.

He inherited the throne of the Altania Kingdom due to the sudden death of his father, the King. He brought Serena in as a general through negotiations. Although he was a great king who unified the continent in just 10 years after his ascension, he felt threatened by Serena's agelessness and the further increase in her magical power. Influenced by his retainers and nobles, he eventually sealed Serena himself using a divine artifact of the goddess.

He had once considered marriage to Serena, but she told him, "You're like a little brother to me; I can't think of you that way."
