The protagonist, Rin Kaburagi, a hardworking office worker exhausted by the summer heat and her demanding job, suddenly finds herself in a dire situation. While walking home, she collapses from exhaustion and is nearly hit by a car. Instead of death, she experiences a blinding white light and a sensation of floating.
Rin awakens to find herself falling from the sky and landing on a young, handsome man with fiery red hair named Siegfried August, the captain of the Third Knight Order. He reveals they are in the royal palace, a place civilians are currently forbidden from entering due to a "Saint summoning ritual." Rin, overwhelmed and disoriented, faints.
She wakes up again, this time in a comfortable natural setting, with Siegfried by her side. He explains that he had a healer cast a recovery spell on her. Rin learns that a Saint was indeed summoned from another world, and due to her unusual arrival and modern clothing, she is suspected of being involved, though Siegfried doesn't believe she's the Saint. He insists she come with him to the palace for her own protection and to avoid further complications.
Inside the palace, Rin and Siegfried encounter two women in modern attire, identified as potential Saints, and a prince who dismisses Rin as a mere "corpse" and a potential distraction. When a crystal used to identify Saints shatters upon Rin's touch, the prince accuses her of sabotage. Rin, however, bravely defends Siegfried and herself, asserting her own potential involvement in the summoning. Another woman, a black-haired individual, intervenes, stating she will not cooperate if Rin is harmed. This leads to Rin and Siegfried being spared punishment but banished to the city outskirts.
Siegfried offers Rin a job at a restaurant run by his eccentric friend, Harold Hewitt, a talented but unconventional chef who views cooking as a form of medicine. At Harold's restaurant, "Ristorante Harold," Rin discovers that the food here is not about taste but about its "effects," often medicinal. Harold's cooking, while potent, is notoriously unpalatable. Rin, a lover of good food, is determined to improve the culinary standards. She also learns that she possesses the unique ability to see the "stats" of ingredients, a skill unknown even to Harold.
Rin begins working at the restaurant, aiming to create delicious food that also provides beneficial effects. She and Harold collaborate on a stewed hamburger, which, despite its initial unpleasant taste, proves to have significant healing properties, even capable of healing Siegfried's burnt hand. Siegfried, who has been looking out for Rin, is impressed by her ability to see ingredient stats and her desire to improve the world of cooking.
The narrative also touches upon the political landscape, with the Prince of Lambert Kingdom seemingly prioritizing the "ideal" Saint over others and the influence of the Apothecary's Guild. Siegfried, despite his outward appearance, is revealed to be a dedicated individual with a complex past, and Harold is a genius driven by his research. The chapters conclude with Rin embracing her new life, determined to make delicious and effective food, while Siegfried continues to watch over her, and Harold sees her as a key to his research.
