This section of the light novel introduces a large cast of characters, primarily focusing on their personalities and relationships as they embark on a school trip. The narrative then shifts to the protagonist, Riuma Asakura, reflecting on his past life and his current reincarnation as Velt Zeha.

The narrative then delves into Riuma's past life as Asakura Riuma, a delinquent who died in a bus accident during a school trip. He recalls his life, his friendships, and his unrequited feelings for Minami Kano, a bright and energetic girl who was instrumental in drawing him out of his delinquent lifestyle. He remembers her death in the same accident that claimed his life.
The story then transitions to Riuma's current life as Velt Zeha, an eight-year-old boy who has recently regained his memories of his past life. He struggles with his identity, feeling torn between being Velt and being Riuma. He lives with his loving but overbearing parents, Aruna and Bonapa Zeha, who dote on him. Velt attends the Elphasia Children's Magic Academy, but he struggles with magic, often resorting to unconventional methods. He feels out of place in this fantasy world, which is vastly different from his previous one.
A significant turning point occurs when Velt, as Riuma, visits a ramen shop called "Tonkotsu Ramen." The taste of the ramen triggers vivid memories of his past life, confirming that his memories are real and that his previous world and the people in it, including Minami Kano, truly existed. This discovery leads to an emotional reunion with his former homeroom teacher, Shunjiro Kobayakawa, who is now the ramen shop owner, Meruma Charshi. They realize they both died in the same accident and were reincarnated in this world.
This reunion sparks a new purpose in Velt: to find Minami Kano in this new world. He decides to embark on a journey to explore this world, a decision met with concern by his parents and his childhood friend, Princess Forna Elphasia, who is also revealed to be a prodigy in magic. Velt's journey is further motivated by the news of a neighboring country's destruction by the "Vesperada Demon Kingdom Army," highlighting the growing threat of war. He begins training in combat, seeking weapons and guidance from his former teacher, and grappling with the responsibilities that come with his past life and his current existence.
