The story begins with the protagonist, a fourteen-year-old Necromancer named Nene, being unceremoniously kicked out of the Hero Brigis's party. Brigis, along with the Priest Sala and Warrior Bahamunk, accuse Nene of being useless and a detriment to their image. Nene protests that her necromancy is her only skill, bound by a pact with the jealous goddess Osiris, and that she cannot use other magic without risking a curse. Sala cruelly mocks Nene, calling her "gross" and suggesting she might have avoided expulsion if she had been more accommodating to Brigis's advances, which Nene vehemently denies, emphasizing her young age. Humiliated and with no village to return to due to her forbidden lineage, Nene is cast out with a handful of coins.
Devastated and penniless, Nene finds herself alone and struggling to survive. She laments her ruined life plan, which involved using her necromancy to help the Hero's party save the world and then living a life of glory. Realizing she cannot return to her secluded clan, Nene decides to use the forbidden "Soul Reanimation Technique (Save & Load)" to rewind time. She drinks a potent, dark liquid from a cylinder to ensure her soul doesn't depart before the ritual. Chanting a forbidden spell, Nene dies, only to awaken in a cheap inn in the city of Adolumood, two years in the past.
Now twelve years old and with her memories of the future intact, Nene is determined to succeed in this second playthrough. Her immediate goal is to acquire funds. She stealthily steals a quarter of the party's savings from Sala's room, justifying it as severance pay. She then encounters Sala, who is scantily clad and emerging from Brigis's room, confirming Nene's suspicions about their inappropriate relationship. Brigis also appears, half-dressed, and attempts to lure Nene into his room to discuss her departure. Nene, disgusted by their behavior and the realization of their true nature, punches Brigis and flees the inn, vowing revenge.
Nene heads to a battlefield where a large number of soldiers have recently fallen. She intends to gather strong corpses to create powerful undead servants. She finds the corpse of a young female swordsman, Fran, whose fighting spirit and potential impress her. Nene performs a complex ritual, using rare necromantic ingredients and her own life force to reanimate Fran as a perfect undead warrior. To her surprise, Fran is not disgusted by Nene or her abilities, but instead expresses immense gratitude and pledges her unwavering loyalty, calling Nene her "god." Nene, though initially intending to use Fran as a tool for her revenge, finds herself touched by Fran's devotion.
Nene decides to deviate from her original plan to visit Obza Village, Fran's "second home," which in her previous timeline was destroyed. To her astonishment, the village is intact and peaceful. She learns that the destruction she witnessed in her past was yet to occur. When a horde of monsters attacks, Nene, despite her initial reluctance to get involved, uses her necromancy to defend the village, creating a massive undead army from the fallen monsters. The villagers, initially fearful, are grateful for her intervention and celebrate her as a hero, a stark contrast to her previous ostracization. Nene, overwhelmed by the positive reception and Fran's unwavering admiration, struggles to reconcile her vengeful motives with the unexpected kindness she receives.
The Hero's party, meanwhile, is expelled from a town due to their excessive spending and debauchery, unaware that their future is already being undermined by Nene's actions. Nene and Fran then travel to Mount Volca, a volcanic region plagued by a powerful Wyvern. Nene, using her knowledge from her previous playthrough, manipulates the village chief by healing his teeth with necromancy, securing their passage into the mountain. Inside, they confront the Wyvern. Nene summons a colossal skeleton dragon from a fossilized dragon's remains, which easily defeats the Wyvern. Nene, however, overdoes it, causing the cave to collapse, and they escape on the dragon's back. They return to the village, where Nene presents the Wyvern's horn as proof of her deed. The villagers, surprisingly accepting of her necromancy, celebrate her, while the Hero's party, arriving later, is met with suspicion and imprisonment by the village chief, who was warned by Nene about their arrival.
Nene and Fran continue their journey, with Nene aiming to acquire the legendary sword Durandal. They reach the Hero's Tomb, where Nene, using her knowledge of the past and a necromantic ritual to animate the tomb's creator, a hero's mummy, obtains the sword. She gives it to Fran, who is deeply moved. The Hero's party, arriving later, is denied the sword, told it's "sold out" and that a young girl has already claimed it, leaving them bewildered and weaponless.
The narrative then follows Nene and Fran's travels, facing mundane challenges like finding lodging and dealing with Nene's physical limitations. Fran's unwavering loyalty and care for Nene, despite her undead nature, become a significant emotional beat. Fran reveals her village was destroyed by the Demon Lord, and she's been searching for her family ever since. Nene, though initially focused on revenge, finds herself increasingly protective of Fran.
Their journey leads them to the city of Nardo, which Nene knows will be attacked by demons. She plans to preemptively create undead "pawns" in the graveyard before the attack, but Fran suggests defending the city directly to save lives. Nene, swayed by Fran's plea and her own growing sense of responsibility, agrees to defend the city. She uses her necromancy to create an army of zombies to fight off the initial demon assault, which is led by a Vampire. The Vampire recognizes Nene as a Necromancer and questions her allegiance, but Nene, aided by Fran and the summoned skeleton dragon, repels the attack. The Vampire flees, intrigued by Nene's power and her alliance with humans. The Hero's party, meanwhile, is struggling, having lost their weapons and facing hardship. The Vampire, more concerned with Nene's actions than the Heroes, escapes them.
Nene continues to defend Nardo from repeated demon attacks, working in secret while the villagers sleep, feeling unappreciated and overworked. Fran, however, continues to praise her. Nene decides to attack the source of the demon attacks: a Vampire's mansion. They infiltrate the mansion, and Nene, with Fran's help, defeats the Vampire commander. The narrative highlights Nene's growing reliance on Fran and her internal conflict between her desire for revenge and her developing empathy.
