From beneath her mask, the Duke's daughter watched the man and woman before her with extremely cold eyes. The man was the First Prince, her fiancé. On the celebratory day of her graduation ceremony, her fiancé broke off their engagement.

He declared that he didn't need a spouse ugly both in appearance and character, and that he would marry the Viscount's daughter. (From Act 1)

I had intended to write a traditional "royal road" story, but somehow I've ended up heading in a completely different direction.

The title's meaning is revealed in Chapter 1. It can probably be read as a standalone short story for just Chapter 1.
