The story begins with Gaim, a 16-year-old boy with short brown hair and thin, steel-colored armor, walking towards the Adventurer's Guild. He feels a sense of weariness and dissatisfaction with his life as an adventurer, which involves monster hunting, escorting VIPs, gathering herbs, and mining resources. Recently, requests to defeat the Demon Lord's army have become more frequent. The Demon Lord, a powerful being whose origins are unknown, commands an army of monsters and five executives, aiming to conquer the world from his castle. Gaim, however, finds his own abilities to be mediocre, lacking talent in swordsmanship, magic, and physical prowess, and his magical ability is limited to lower-tier spells.
He accepts the simplest quest available: gathering medicinal herbs. While leaving the guild, he overhears conversations about a comet and how the disappearance of dogs from the forest has made herb gathering easier. Gaim, who struggles with social interaction and feels his life is stuck in a rut, wishes for something more exciting, even a transfer to another world. As he gathers herbs in the Sacred Tree Forest, a place known for its abundant herbs and fewer monsters, he senses an unusual presence. Turning around, he sees a massive stone floating in the sky, which then hurtles towards him. Before he can react, he is engulfed by the stone, experiencing a crushing sensation and the sound of trees falling, before losing consciousness.
Gaim awakens in a different forest, overgrown and unfamiliar. He is unharmed, despite the apparent fatal impact. Confused, he realizes he has been transported to an unknown location. He encounters a small, insect-like creature, which is unusual as there are no insects in the Sacred Tree Forest. He notices his sword is missing from his belt, speculating it was lost or destroyed. He laments his inability to afford enchanted gear, which would enhance his combat effectiveness. He resolves to find a way out of the forest and reach a more open area.
As he walks, he pricks his finger on a sharp branch and uses a healing magic, confirming that magic still works in this new world. He continues his journey, observing the changing colors of the sky as evening approaches, but fails to find a way out of the forest. He gathers fallen leaves and branches to make a fire, using a fire magic spell. He is also hungry, as he hasn't eaten since arriving. He decides to camp for the night, contemplating the possibility of being in another world, a world free from his adventurer's chains.
The next morning, Gaim wakes up feeling stiff and sore. He hears birdsong and, after a period of lethargy, investigates a rustling in the grass. A four-legged monster with a distinctive circular nose emerges and charges at him. Gaim narrowly dodges it, realizing the danger of this new world. He decides to descend a slope, cautiously preparing himself. He uses water magic to clean his armor and drinks water conjured by magic. As he is about to descend, it begins to rain heavily, making the descent too perilous. He takes shelter and reflects on his desire to return to his old life, regretting his wish for a new world.
While resting, Gaim hears a voice and discovers a girl with purple hair and a black robe. She introduces herself as Analise, a former "famous sage" from his original world. She explains that they have both "transmigrated" to this world, which is an "isekai" (another world). Analise reveals that this world is called Japan, specifically Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai City, Izumigaoka. She confirms that Gaim's encounter with the stone was actually a comet, and that she also arrived yesterday after a similar experience. They decide to travel together, as neither knows much about this new world. Analise shares an onigiri with Gaim, which he devours gratefully.
They begin their journey, with Analise using a body enhancement magic to speed them up. Gaim, initially struggling to keep up, finds himself accelerating with each step. They emerge from the forest into a plain and see a strange structure called a "gerende," which Analise explains is a tool for easily ascending and descending hills. She also identifies the strange monster Gaim encountered as a boar, clarifying that it's an animal and not a hostile monster, and that magical wild monsters are rare in this country. Analise mentions that they are heading towards an airport, as there are likely other people from their world who have also transmigrated.
Analise reveals that she can sense magical energy and detected 7-8 other presences upon arrival, which have since disappeared. She believes these might be other transmigrated individuals, and they need to find them to better navigate this world. She also suspects the Demon Lord and his five executives may have transmigrated as well. Analise explains that while they could choose a quiet life, the Demon Lord would likely pursue them, making it necessary to defeat him. She hints that this world is more dangerous than Gaim imagines.
They continue walking, and Analise uses magic to prevent Gaim from feeling tired. They see children heading to a "school" and observe various forms of transportation like "cars" and "trucks," which are unfamiliar to Gaim. Analise explains that they are heading to Sendai Station, which is still a considerable distance away. She also mentions that they cannot use magic openly, as the inhabitants of this world do not possess magic and might react with fear or hostility.
Upon reaching Sendai Station, they are awestruck by the towering buildings, particularly a skyscraper. Analise explains that these are "skyscrapers" and that they have used up their money on a taxi ride. They decide to sleep in an alleyway due to the lack of affordable lodging. Analise uses a fire magic spell to scare away a swarm of rats that attack them. They eat "bento" for dinner. Gaim reflects on his past life, feeling a sense of longing for his home, but also a strange emptiness.
The next morning, Gaim and Analise wake up uncomfortable from sleeping on concrete. Analise needs to use a restroom and heads to a "convenience store." Inside, she is unexpectedly attacked by a young boy who accuses her of using magic. Analise, after initially trying to lie, admits to being from another world and using magic. The boy, who seems to be investigating unusual occurrences, is surprised by this revelation. Analise worries about the potential danger of being discovered by the world's inhabitants.
