The protagonist, a man who lost the use of his legs in a traffic accident after graduating college and starting his career, laments his confined life. He dreams of traveling the world, achieving success, embarking on adventures, being a hero, running a business, creating new things, finding trusted companions, marrying, having a family, and helping others. However, he tragically falls down a flight of stairs and believes he is dying.
He awakens in a bright, ethereal space and meets a white-bearded old man, whom he presumes to be God. God explains that while his physical body has died, his soul persists due to his strong desire to live and accomplish more. God offers him a chance to be reborn in a new world, a fantasy world with swords and magic, in a healthy body. To aid his survival, God grants him two magic skills: [Storage] and [Teleportation], which will grow in level and unlock new abilities, primarily useful for crafting. He also receives initial necessities and coins.
Upon waking in his new life, the protagonist finds himself in a rustic mountain cabin, equipped with provisions. He discovers he is now in a healthy, younger body, appearing to be in his early twenties. He resolves to enjoy his new life and begins by practicing his magic skills. He successfully uses [Storage] to make a tree disappear and [Teleportation] to move short distances. He also learns to use [Extraction] to retrieve stored items, using it to fill the hole left by the tree with soil and build a stone wall for defense.
He then practices [Teleportation] extensively, moving around his cabin and eventually ascending a mountain, reaching the summit within thirty minutes. He confirms his location is deep within a forest with no signs of civilization. He returns home and reflects on his newfound abilities, feeling immense gratitude and excitement. He outlines his immediate goals: securing food and water, reinforcing his home, practicing magic, training with a sword, learning about this world, and choosing a name. He also decides to build an underground shelter for added security.
After a few days, he has become accustomed to his forest life, his initial supplies depleted but replenished through foraging and nearby river water. He practices sword fighting, improving his technique. He names himself Ares Guilford, though he feels a disconnect between his Japanese origins and his new Western-style appearance.
A month later, Ares has settled into his life with the dragon-person Tenesia, who has become a companion. While Ares focuses on foraging, Tenesia hunts, though Ares struggles with hunting himself. One day, a young woman's voice is heard outside his cabin. Using [Teleportation], Ares observes her from a tree and realizes she has horns, identifying her as a dragon-person. She swiftly appears behind him, revealing incredible speed. After a brief, cautious exchange, Ares demonstrates his [Teleportation] skill, astonishing Tenesia. He invites her inside, and she introduces herself as Tenesia, a dragon-person traveling alone and hungry. Ares shares his food, and Tenesia offers to hunt for him, successfully bringing back a deer. They discover they can [Teleport] together, with Ares carrying Tenesia and the deer back to the cabin. They enjoy the venison, and Tenesia shares her hunting expertise. Ares proposes Tenesia call him "Aruji" (Master) instead of "House Master," which she accepts.
A month passes, and Tenesia has become a permanent resident. Ares, Tenesia, and a newly arrived elf named Irene, whom they rescued from goblins, form a close-knit group. Ares gains a new skill, [Processing], which allows him to refine materials. He uses this skill to build a larger house with individual rooms for each of them and to enhance their weapons. He also discovers [Copy], enabling him to replicate weapons perfectly.
Driven by a desire to share his creations, Ares decides to visit a nearby town with Tenesia and Irene. They encounter bandits attacking a merchant caravan and intervene, incapacitating the bandits. The grateful merchant, Imul Agassa, offers them a substantial reward and assistance in establishing a business. Ares, inspired by Imul's suggestion, decides to become a merchant. They are granted a shop in a bustling part of town and are provided with two assistants. Ares also purchases a horse-drawn carriage for appearances, though he relies on [Teleportation] for travel. He plans to use his skills to create and sell a variety of goods, from furniture and clothing to weapons, and to explore the world beyond his secluded home.
