The protagonist, a 16-year-old boy, begins his day with excitement for the release of the RPG "Dragonest Story 4." While walking to school, he realizes he's forgotten his childhood friend, Mika, and rushes to apologize via text. Distracted by his phone, he fails to notice a falling object from a building above. The object strikes him on the head, causing him to lose consciousness.
He awakens in an unfamiliar forest, noticing his perspective is lower than usual. The flora and fauna are alien, with pink birds and heart-shaped leaves, leading him to conclude he's in another world. He discovers a scar on his left arm is gone and his hair is now bright red, further confirming his transmigration. A note falls from the sky, revealing he died from the falling object and that a benevolent entity, "Genten Jizo" (a local Jizo statue he had previously shown kindness to), has sent his soul to a world called "Anazum." He is now 12 years old and can read and write the local language. He is also informed that he can view his "status" by thinking about it.
Overwhelmed by grief and regret for not confessing his feelings to Mika and for his family, he weeps but eventually resolves to live in Anazum. He accesses his status screen, revealing his name is now "Arim," and sees game-like stats (HP, MP, Attack, Dexterity, Defense, Magic Power, Speed) and skills. He learns about the stat and skill point systems, which allow for character customization.
His first encounter is with a large, rabbit-like monster, which he defeats using basic martial arts learned from a neighbor. This victory grants him his first level-up, increasing his stats and earning him skill points. He decides to allocate skill points to elemental magic (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth) and healing, learning spells like "Flame Ball," "Water Ball," and "Heal." He then faces a weasel-like creature, which he defeats after strategically increasing his Speed and Attack stats. He discovers that defeating monsters yields "magic cores," which are likely currency or crafting materials.
Using the bones and teeth of the defeated creatures, he crafts a bone knife and prepares a makeshift campfire. He eats the raw rabbit meat, finding it unappetizing but necessary. He gains a new skill, "Disassembly," after consuming the meat, which enhances his ability to process monster carcasses.
On his second day, he wakes up fully healed and continues his journey. He uses "Water Ball" for hygiene and to gather water, finding it incredibly convenient. He hunts another rabbit, improving his disassembly skills and realizing how much he wasted the previous day. He then encounters a bulldog-like dog attacking a rabbit. He defeats the dog with "Flame Ball" and "Water Ball," leveling up again. He strategically uses the rabbit's meat and scent to lure more dogs into a trap, defeating them and further leveling up. He dedicates his skill points to Water magic, reaching its maximum level and unlocking its evolution and branching paths. He chooses to evolve Water magic into "Water Magic Kai" and branch into "Ice Magic." He also experiments with skill synthesis, combining "Water Magic" with "Swordsmanship" to create "Water Short Sword Summoning," and "Water Magic" with "Disassembly" to enhance his underwater dismantling abilities. He collects more magic cores and prepares to continue his exploration of Anazum.
