The story follows Marie Rose, a young orphan with the rare aptitude for spatial magic. Chapters 3-12 detail her early life and her burgeoning ambition to utilize her unique abilities.
Marie Rose grew up in a poverty-stricken orphanage with her younger brother, Dart. Life was a constant struggle for basic necessities, with each child receiving only a single hard bun for meals and hand-me-down clothing. At ten years old, all citizens undergo an aptitude test, with the hope of receiving protection and a better life if they possess rare or useful skills. Marie Rose, despite her dire circumstances, held onto this hope. However, her test revealed a single, seemingly useless aptitude: spatial magic. Her MP was a mere 3, and her spatial magic abilities, "Open/Close" and "Expansion," were severely limited. "Open/Close" consumed MP over time when active, and her initial spatial pocket was only the size of a soup plate. "Expansion" required 10 MP, rendering it unusable in her current state. This contrasted sharply with her peer, Anne, who possessed four useful aptitudes.
Despite her initial despair, Marie Rose continued to practice her spatial magic, opening and closing her pocket to increase her proficiency. A turning point arrived around her tenth birthday when she learned about the various adventurer roles. A former herb-gathering adventurer taught the children about useful plants, including one that, while incredibly bitter, could restore a small amount of MP. Marie Rose realized this weed, which she had previously discarded, could be a free MP recovery source. She began secretly consuming the weed, and to her surprise, her MP began to increase. She discovered that recovering MP from the weed occasionally raised her maximum MP. By the time she turned twelve and was expected to find employment, her MP had soared to over 500, and her spatial pocket had expanded to the size of two beds. Her spatial magic had also evolved, allowing her to store items simply by touching them, and her abilities now included "Efficient Storage" and "Gravity Nullification."
With her newfound capabilities, Marie Rose left the orphanage, armed with a small stipend and a fierce determination. Her ultimate goal was to own her own home, a personal space she craved after her communal orphanage life. She recognized that her spatial magic could be invaluable for various professions, such as a caravan guard or a maid, but her ambition extended beyond mere employment. She aimed to create a spacious personal dwelling within her spatial pocket. To achieve this, she needed to work and gather resources, and she believed the Adventurer's Guild, known for its high demand for spatial magic users and its discounted "discarded potions," was the ideal place.
Upon arriving at the Guild, Marie Rose encountered a formidable warrior named Thor, who, despite his imposing armor, helped her navigate the entrance and the reception counter. Her bold declaration of wanting employment caused amusement, but her ability to store several large sofas instantly impressed the Guild Master, Gantz, and the mage, Hannah. Recognizing her potential, Gantz offered her a provisional position as a spatial magic user at the monster corpse buy-out station in the labyrinth, a job known for its grim nature.
Marie Rose, accompanied by Thor and Hannah, ventured into the labyrinth. They encountered basic monsters and traps, but with her escorts' protection, she felt secure. Upon reaching the buy-out station on the third floor, she met the current spatial magic user, Nagamasa, who, upon receiving news of his leave, quickly departed with his guards. Marie Rose was then introduced to Mike, a Guild employee who explained her duties: receiving monster corpses from adventurers, assessing them, and storing them in her spatial pocket. She also learned she could freely consume discarded potions to replenish her MP. Her first task involved storing three goblin corpses, which she handled with surprising composure, drawing on her past experiences. As the adventurers left, the archer of the party gifted her chocolate, a rare treat, and encouraged her. This marked the beginning of her new life and her journey towards achieving her dreams.
