The story follows Iori Hatano, a woman who died in Japan from illness after a life of severe social anxiety and bullying. She is reincarnated by a self-proclaimed god into a harsh desert environment, fulfilling her wish for minimal human interaction. Her new life is spent in a small oasis, maintaining it with the help of a Salt Slime named Shiro and her own alchemy skills, which she received as a divine gift. She finds solace and purpose in weaving fabrics from cotton and cactus fibers, creating unique materials. Her peaceful, solitary existence is disrupted when a group of soldiers, led by Isaac, arrives at her oasis.
Iori, terrified of men and especially handsome ones, struggles to communicate with Isaac and his men, her social anxiety preventing her from speaking coherently. Isaac, a kind and perceptive leader, tries to ease her fear, eventually resorting to simple questions and gestures. Iori, wanting to help them, offers them a large woven cloth for shelter, water from her oasis, and some preserved food. The soldiers, who are investigating the "Death Oasis" due to rumors of a dangerous witch, are surprised by Iori's gentle nature and her seemingly magical abilities, which include her ability to maintain the oasis and her unusual companions: a giant bird called a Garuda and the Salt Slime, Shiro.
The soldiers' primary objective is to understand how the oasis thrives in such an arid environment, hoping to find a solution to the encroaching desert that is threatening their kingdom's capital. They learn that Shiro, by consuming salt, purifies the water and land, making the oasis sustainable. Despite her reluctance to leave her secluded life, Iori is persuaded to accompany the soldiers to the capital, as Shiro can split into multiple entities to maintain the oasis, and the Garuda can patrol the territory.
During their journey to the capital, a sandstorm approaches. Iori, using her alchemy and Shiro's abilities, creates a large dome of salt to protect the soldiers and their camels. This act, while saving them, exhausts her, causing her to collapse. While recovering, she reflects on her past and her struggles with communication, receiving unexpected advice from a stoic soldier named Ees about accepting her efforts.
Later, as the sandstorm intensifies, Iori, despite her weakened state, wakes up to help seal the dome's air vents. She successfully uses her magic again, but collapses once more, this time being cared for by the soldiers. The soldiers, particularly a magic-focused youth named Nashir, are fascinated by Iori's unique salt-based magic and her ability to control magical creatures, realizing her potential value to the kingdom. They are also aware of her communication difficulties and the potential challenges in collaborating with her. The chapters end with Iori recovering within the salt dome, the storm raging outside, and the soldiers contemplating how to best utilize her abilities for the kingdom's benefit.
