This spring, he is to leave his hometown, the Kreutzer territory, to enroll in the Wasintos Royal Academy in the royal capital. While he is the heir to a viscounty with land, his territory is a remote region of the kingdom, and ultimately, his is but a viscount's family. His family's standing offers no ties to high-ranking nobles, much less royalty. Given his territory's remoteness, he harbors no ambitions of wielding influence in the capital or elevating his family's status. In fact, he finds such pursuits uninteresting; managing his own domain is quite enough.

Yet, what is happening? Before he even enrolls, a duke's daughter and an earl's daughter speak to him, and after enrollment, even a prince approaches him. It's preposterous; he's merely the heir to a viscountcy. Are people not being far too casual with him? As the one of lower standing being approached, he is, frankly, quite perplexed. And naturally so, for his is but a viscount's house.

Thus, Lay truly thinks, "Please, spare me."

This is the story of a mere viscount's heir, devoid of ambition for advancement, who, unbeknownst to him, rises to prominence. Before he realizes it, he becomes a figure of intense focus; before he realizes it, he is hailed as a hero.

The setting is a game-like world with isekai (another world reincarnation) elements. However, the protagonist is not a reincarnated person.
