The story picks up with the protagonist, Sumireko Yamanaka (Sumire), a high school student transported to another world, having adapted to her new life over six months. She wakes early to process dried "Shiokinoko," a mushroom that, when dried overnight, surprisingly tastes like pickled plums and serves as a primary source of salt. As she works, a tall, silver-haired man with unnervingly calm blue eyes, Fical, appears without a sound. He abruptly embraces her, causing Sumire to scold him for his sudden departure and three-month absence, during which she worried he might have met a similar fate to their initial encounter.
The narrative flashes back to Sumire's arrival in this world. After tripping on a road in Japan, she found herself in a vibrant, alien jungle. Lost and exhausted after three days of wandering with minimal supplies, she resigned herself to collapsing. However, she discovered a bloodied, unconscious man in a clearing. Despite her fear, she found him alive and, after tending to his superficial wounds and offering him her blazer, proposed they search for help together. The man, who could only nod, pointed in a direction, but a rustling in the bushes alerted them to an approaching presence.
This presence turned out to be Gartus, a towering, muscular man resembling a bear, who, upon hearing their plea, readily agreed to help. He carried the unconscious man and Sumire to the nearby town of Torutea. There, they were taken in by Gartus and his wife, Mesil, who mistook them for a couple due to Fical's unconscious grip on Sumire's arm. Fical, who had lost his memory, was assumed to be a victim of an attack, while Sumire was believed to be an orphan from a distant village. They were given a vacant house to live in.
Gartus, the head of the local Adventurer's Guild, helped Sumire find work assisting at the guild, while Fical, now recovered and with his memory intact, became an adventurer. Their lives settled into a routine until Fical disappeared for three months on a job. Sumire was eventually reassured by Gartus that Fical was completing further assignments, and she resigned herself to his absence, though she felt a pang of irritation at his lack of communication.
Fical's sudden reappearance at Sumire's doorstep marks a turning point. He embraces her tightly, and after she expresses her relief and frustration, he apologizes. Sumire, though initially worried, had come to terms with his potential absence. Fical's return coincides with the "Departure Day," a special day for the Adventurer's Guild where six-year-olds embark on their adventuring journeys. Sumire, now a leader, is tasked with guiding a group of these young adventurers, including the boisterous Mars, the doll-like Liliana, and the bookish Leonardo.
The first quest involves collecting three dragon scales. During their expedition, they encounter a small, friendly dragon named Himekoryu. Their quest is interrupted by the roar of a much larger dragon, a Ryuu-class monster. Fical, despite his low adventurer rank, demonstrates incredible strength and skill, subduing the dragon. It's revealed that the dragon, named Su, was enraged because Fical, a powerful but unregistered individual, had not given it a name, a crucial step in forming a bond. Fical, after a brief moment of contemplation, names the dragon "Su."
The group successfully collects the dragon scales, with Fical unceremoniously harvesting scales from Su to complete the task, much to the dragon's dismay and the children's awe. They return to the guild, where the children receive their first adventurer cards. Later, Fical, now a recognized adventurer with a growing rank, continues to be a constant, albeit silent, presence in Sumire's life, accompanying her even on her daily tasks. He also brings forth a large sum of gold, indicating his success as an adventurer.
A new challenge arises with the arrival of Rukitas, the arrogant third son of a knight commander, who joins Sumire's team. His condescending attitude clashes with the other children and Sumire's leadership style. The chapter ends with Sumire preparing for another quest, with Fical and the newly named dragon Su by her side, hinting at future adventures and the complexities of their relationships.
