Liom was slated to lose her fiancé, the prince, to her younger sister, Plum, the protagonist, and be exiled from the country.

Remembering this, Liom finally understood the reasons: she had been blamed for harassing her sister, something she hadn't even done, and her diplomatic achievements, lauded in other countries, were inexplicably unacknowledged at home.
