The protagonist, a reincarnated individual who is now a High Elf named Eiser, finds himself bored with the peaceful, unchanging life of the deep forest. After 120 years of this existence, he yearns for the stimulation and variety of his past human life, particularly the taste of meat. He decides to leave the forest, a place protected by a spirit barrier, to explore the outside world. He crafts a stone knife and cuts his long High Elf hair, a symbol of his rebellion against the traditional Elven lifestyle.
Upon exiting the forest, Eiser is immediately attacked by a pack of Forest Wolves. He is saved by the trees, who move to allow him to escape to safety. While he could easily hunt them with his archery skills, he hesitates to kill unnecessarily. He ultimately decides to take down two wolves, using their fangs and claws and then disposing of their bodies with the help of a wind spirit, turning them into nourishment for the trees. This encounter solidifies his belief that the outside world is indeed stimulating.
After a challenging two-week journey through the vast Pulha Great Forest, Eiser finally reaches the town of Vistcourt. He is immediately struck by the human world, but his lack of money for the entrance fee poses a problem. Fortunately, a female Elf named Irena, who recognizes him as a High Elf, intervenes. Irena, a member of the renowned "White Lake" adventurer team, offers to vouch for him and pay his entrance fee, intrigued by his presence in a human town. Eiser, who has shed his Elven name for the more practical "Eiser," explains his boredom with Elven life and his desire to experience the world.
Irena, despite her initial surprise and the inherent animosity between Elves and Dwarves, helps Eiser navigate the town. She learns that the best blacksmith in town is a Dwarf, and Eiser, eager to learn metalworking to craft items from the wolf fangs and claws he collected, insists on seeking him out. Irena, though hesitant due to racial prejudice, agrees to help him. Eiser, in turn, gifts her some of the valuable Appua fruits he collected, which she recognizes as a rare delicacy.
Eiser begins working as an apprentice at the Dwarf blacksmith's shop, much to the initial dismay of the Dwarf master, whom Eiser affectionately calls "Shitty Dwarf." Despite their animosity, Eiser's polite demeanor and a gift of expensive sake soften the Dwarf's stance. Eiser expresses his desire to learn blacksmithing, not just to craft weapons but also to understand the craft itself, even expressing a long-term interest in it. The Dwarf, amused by Eiser's unusual ambition and recognizing his potential, agrees to teach him, albeit with a gruff demeanor.
Eiser's presence at the Dwarf forge, an Elf working alongside a Dwarf, becomes a curiosity, attracting more customers to the shop. He also begins to learn about the human economy and currency, with Irena's help, and starts earning a modest wage. He also discovers that the wolf fangs he collected were actually from a much larger and rarer creature, a Grand Wolf, further highlighting his naivete about the outside world.
Months pass, and Eiser becomes proficient in making nails and other metal goods, even inventing a new type of fastener called a "katsugai." He also learns about the environmental impact of mining and the potential for conflict between humans and spirits. When Irena's adventuring party is tasked with resolving a problem with a corrupted Water Spirit in the town of Galaret, caused by mining pollution, Eiser is called upon to help. He realizes the complexity of the situation, which involves not only appeasing the spirit but also addressing the root cause of the pollution. He decides to involve his Dwarf master, recognizing that the issue extends beyond his own abilities and requires the expertise of metalworkers to address the mining operations.
