The story begins with the protagonist, Raimondo, awakening in a new world after dying in his previous life on Earth. He is reborn as a baby in the Centoro Kingdom, the central nation among five great powers that maintain global order through cooperation rather than conflict. Raimondo discovers he possesses memories of his past life, a rare phenomenon even within this world, and is the heir to the throne, destined to become the next king. His mother, Maya, the first princess of the Ost Empire, is ambitious for him, constantly urging him to become a great king. His father, King Abramo of Centoro, is loving but somewhat frivolous, doting on Raimondo as his "cute" son.
Raimondo's primary caregiver is Maria, a kind and intelligent maid who secretly wishes for Raimondo to forge his own path, not just follow his mother's ambitions. Through Maria, Raimondo learns about the world's geography, including the mountainous Ost Empire to the east, home to dragons, and the Notos Union to the south, rumored to be the origin of the scaled races. He also encounters Curillos, a cat-like beastman from the Notos Union and a knight, who demonstrates the magical communication device known as "Maden."
Five years later, Raimondo, now five years old, is still largely confined to his room and the East Garden, a Japanese-style garden. He has a close bond with his half-brother, Giancarlo, the son of the third queen, Sophia. Giancarlo is frail but kind, and Raimondo cherishes their time together. During a birthday tea party in the South Garden, a fantastical area with glowing trees and crystal flowers, Giancarlo suffers a severe coughing fit. In his distress, Raimondo, who has a talent for magic, creates a spectacular water vapor explosion to attract attention, inadvertently revealing his magical abilities. This event causes a stir, with some fearing his power and others seeing his potential. Giancarlo's condition is attributed to his mixed heritage, a common issue among the offspring of beastmen and humans in the Notos Union.
The incident leads to Raimondo's isolation. While his mother continues to push him towards the throne, and his other brothers remain distant, Raimondo feels misunderstood and lonely. He confides in Maria and Curillos, expressing his desire to be recognized for who he is, not just as his mother's son or a potential threat. He questions his purpose, feeling like a "high-spec NEET" confined to his room. The chapters conclude with Raimondo feeling isolated and contemplating his future, while Curillos, intrigued by Raimondo's abilities and character, offers his lifelong loyalty.
