Chapters 3 through 12 of the light novel detail the initial mission of the protagonist, a newly awakened individual referred to as "Hero," and his subsequent entanglement with a mysterious elf named Sylphina.
The story begins with the Hero being briefed by his "Commander" via thought communication. He is tasked with infiltrating an occupied elf village to eliminate a terrorist leader named Sylphina, who is plotting to assassinate the Emperor. The Commander emphasizes the importance of leaving no evidence, as they are on elven territory. The Hero expresses reluctance about burning the village, but is assured it's occupied by terrorists with few women and children, save for the leader, "Witch Sylph."
Upon arrival, the Hero successfully navigates traps and reaches the terrorist stronghold. He is equipped with a "Raygun-Bayonet Integrate," a cutting-edge weapon combining a firearm with a beam blade. The Commander explains its functionality and assures the Hero of its reliability, despite the lack of spare cartridges. The Hero infiltrates the building, finding it surprisingly empty except for three elves and a bound child. The Commander instructs the Hero to use the Integrate in non-lethal mode to extract information, explaining its paralysis effect on living beings and its ability to discern and cut inanimate objects. The Hero is also reminded of his "Accelerated Thinking" ability, which allows him to process information and strategize within a subjective eternity while only a second passes in reality.
The Hero engages the elves, incapacitating them with the Integrate. However, during the confrontation, he discovers the bound child is actually Sylphina Bloommarin, the feared "Witch Sylph." The Commander orders the Hero to kill her immediately, but the Hero refuses, citing a lack of concrete proof and his inability to kill an innocent-looking girl. This defiance leads to a heated exchange, during which Sylphina awakens and reveals her ability to disrupt the Commander's thought communication, effectively severing their connection.
With the Commander silenced, Sylphina explains that the individuals the Hero fought were not terrorists but members of a human trafficking organization that sells elven women and children to various nations, including the Mechanical Empire, for experimentation with internal nanomachines. She claims she was captured by her own subordinates who intended to sell her. Sylphina also reveals that she is a target of the Mechanical Emperor because she mediated the "14-Year War."
The Hero realizes he has been fed false information and that his memory of events prior to the mission is gone. Sylphina, recognizing his amnesia, offers him a choice: return to the Mechanical Empire with her head as proof of his mission, or flee with her. He chooses to flee with her, and they escape the pursuing imperial forces, including a "Sword Saint" named Wallace.
During their escape, Sylphina demonstrates remarkable abilities, including breathing underwater and manipulating natural elements. She reveals that she is a "Priestess" whose powers are often referred to as "magic" and that her current youthful appearance is due to leaving half her power behind 500 years ago during a battle against a Demon King. She explains that the original "Hero" was a man named George who sacrificed his life to seal the Demon King, and that her current journey is to reclaim what she left behind in the former Demon King's territory.
Sylphina hires the Hero, now calling himself "John," as her bodyguard, and they travel towards the Dwarf country to acquire "Magic Armor" before heading to the Orc country and ultimately confronting the Mechanical Emperor. The narrative concludes with them boarding a carriage, with the Hero uncertain of his past and his future allegiances, while Sylphina seems to have a clear, albeit dangerous, path ahead.
