The narrative picks up with the protagonist, Lugis, exhausted from his duties, seeking rest. He is disturbed by the sounds of intimacy from the adjacent room, recognizing the voices as belonging to members of his party, the "Salvation Party." Lugis, a seemingly ordinary individual among extraordinary companions, feels increasingly out of place. His party includes an Elf Princess, a powerful Mage, a brilliant Knight, and the minstrel Alyueno, his childhood friend and unrequited love. Lugis's primary motivation for joining the journey was Alyueno, but he now observes her, along with the other women, becoming increasingly entangled with the "Savior," a man of undeniable talent and charisma. This realization fuels Lugis's discomfort and his habit of seeking solitude at night.
One night, after the sounds from the next room cease, a mysterious figure appears in Lugis's room. This "Carrier" can manipulate Lugis's body, rendering him immobile, and possesses an unidentifiable form. The Carrier offers Lugis a single opportunity to "redraw the painting of his life," a chance to change everything. Despite his suspicion and lack of information, Lugis, driven by a deep-seated despair and the realization that his current path leads to eventual resignation, accepts the offer.
This acceptance triggers a temporal shift, returning Lugis to his past, specifically to his early teenage years when he was an aspiring adventurer under the tutelage of the morally dubious Richard. Lugis finds himself back in his old, tattered clothes, lacking even the rudimentary comforts he possessed in his future. His immediate task is a reconnaissance mission into a dangerous forest, a task he despises, especially given Richard's manipulative nature. During his reconnaissance, Lugis encounters traces of someone else in the forest. He realizes it is the young Kariia Bardnick, a future member of the Salvation Party and a knight-in-training, who is recklessly hunting a large magical beast. Lugis, despite his past animosity towards Kariia due to her arrogance and disdain for the weak, intervenes when she is overwhelmed. He uses his knowledge of the beast's anatomy to deliver a critical blow, saving her life. Kariia, initially dismissive of Lugis, is surprised by his intervention and his knowledge. She accepts his advice on how to defeat the beast, and after he leaves, she successfully defeats it.
Lugis then visits his childhood home, an orphanage run by Nines. He learns that Alyueno, his childhood friend and the object of his affection, has been chosen for "redemption" by the Great Cathedral, a prestigious religious organization. This news deeply unsettles Lugis, as it means Alyueno will be sent far away, potentially preventing him from altering the future where she is lost to the Savior. He realizes that his return to the past is not just about his own fate, but about preventing the loss of Alyueno. He vows to become a great adventurer to be able to meet her again and prevent the future he experienced.
The narrative then shifts to a tavern where Lugis, now a fledgling adventurer, finds himself in a duel with Kariia Bardnick. Kariia, having recognized Lugis from their encounter in the forest, challenges him. She is angered by his departure from the forest and his seemingly dismissive explanation for helping her. Despite her initial anger, she is intrigued by his knowledge and his actions. The duel is set, with the stakes being Lugis becoming Kariia's subordinate if he loses, and her acknowledging his actions if he wins. Lugis, aware of Kariia's manipulative nature, suspects she orchestrated this duel regardless of his answer.
