The protagonist, a young woman who died protecting a child destined to be a "Child of God," is reincarnated into a world that closely resembles her favorite VRMMORPG. She awakens as Carol Neam Alseid, a three-year-old "cursed child" and "villainess" from an otome game she briefly played. Her family, the Alseid Barony, is cold and neglectful, particularly her father, who despises her for being a half-elf, a "changeling" born from a rare ancestral throwback.
Carol's reincarnation was facilitated by a benevolent elder, a former "Child of God," who granted her wish to be reborn in a game-like world. He also imbued her soul with the power of her extensive gaming experience, intending to strengthen her new body. However, a "bug" in this process results in her VRMMORPG player character's abilities and equipment being integrated into her current existence.
Upon realizing her predicament, Carol, despite her young age, begins to assess her situation. She discovers she can summon powerful weapons and magical items from her game, such as the "Zanmatou Ridiru" (a massive sword) and the "Break Revolver" (a powerful firearm), though her three-year-old body limits their immediate usability. She also learns that her game avatar's appearance, a teenage half-elf, is now her true form when she activates her "Witch Dress" equipment, a custom outfit from the game.
Carol's life as Carol is marked by isolation and disdain from her noble family and their retainers, with the exception of two loyal commoner maids, Meiya and her daughter Maia, who care for her. An incident where she accidentally fires the Break Revolver, causing a commotion and injuring the malicious head maid, Ilaria, leads to her being ostracized and forced to move to a dilapidated annex on the estate.
During her time in the annex, Carol continues to test her abilities, learning to use her game skills and equipment. She also begins to learn to read and write with Meiya's help, and discovers that her game currency, "credits," are equivalent to valuable coins in this world. She learns about the world's political landscape, including the Kingdom of Kenista and its history of conflict with demons, and the prejudiced views of nobility towards non-humans.
The narrative then shifts to the perspective of Rolf, a loyal retainer to Carol's mother, Merry. Rolf harbors a deep hatred for commoners and demi-humans, stemming from his family's past ruin. He is devoted to Merry, who despises Carol for her existence, believing Carol's birth ruined her social standing. Merry secretly orders Rolf to eliminate Carol.
Rolf ambushes Carol, intending to drown her. However, Carol, now in her transformed "Witch Dress" state, fights back with her game abilities, overwhelming Rolf with her superior combat skills and weaponry. She defeats him, though he is left alive. This event solidifies her resolve to fight for her survival and defy her predetermined fate as a villainess.
Later, Carol, accompanied by Meiya and Maia, visits the Adventurer's Guild to earn money. Her unusual appearance and combat prowess quickly earn her the moniker "Rose Witch" and the respect, albeit fearful, of the guild members. She encounters a knight who expresses interest in speaking with her, hinting at future plot developments. The narrative also reveals that Carol's game world and the current world are not just similar but potentially the same, with the "Isbel Continent" being the original setting of her VRMMORPG.
