1935. The setting is Eldoland, a land of dust and thunder.

Ten-year-old Douglas grew up in the slums, and after a certain incident, he and his friends Harry and Brian were taken in by Don Sanders of the Mafia. When they were seventeen, they met Belza, the leader of an underground organization, and were recruited as valuable assets.

This is the story of the intertwined destinies of the three childhood friends who, inspired by Belza's justice, each become a taxi driver, a police officer, and a bodyguard in legitimate society.

And then, "FURTHER ON UP THE ROAD" — further down the path — is Douglas's poignant love story, longing for the woman he loves.
