A child of mixed heritage—scorned as an outsider and driven from her homeland—Letis visits Northisla, which is becoming snowbound, relying on relatives of her deceased mother.

It is a land even harsher on outsiders than her homeland. What’s more, after angering a shrine maiden at the temple, Letis soon collapsed, near death.

The story begins with Letis being found in this state.

There's Rufe, a wizard with a hidden past, and Hashiba, the young man who accompanies her. And a small magical beast named Shizu.

“Whether you are an outsider or not. At least I am interested in you.”

Thus begins a journey of three people and one animal, swept up by circumstances.

Letis, though harboring suspicion, gradually opens up.

Around the time she realizes the unconventional, almost warped, bond between Rufe and Hashiba—one that transcends their master-servant relationship—and learns their true nature, the hands of the Five Families who govern Northisla reach out to Letis, entangling her in an irreversible situation.

Chapter 1 sets the stage, and from Chapter 2, secrets will be revealed as more characters are introduced.

The story progresses from multiple perspectives and includes romantic elements, but these are not the main theme; rather, it is an ensemble coming-of-age story.
