The story follows Hibiki Rumator, a reincarnated individual who finds himself in a world with gods, magic, and dungeons called "Areas." Hibiki is a Level 1 Infinite Sorcerer, a rare and notoriously weak job class. His primary skill is "Clone Summon," allowing him to create copies of himself at the cost of 1 magic point per clone, with his maximum summon count currently at one. These clones, while physically identical, possess distinct personalities and are often more crude or outspoken than Hibiki himself.
Chapters 3-12 detail Hibiki's early adventures and struggles as a solo adventurer. Initially, he is tasked with carrying a heavy Iron Turtle shell, a task he delegates to his first clone, referred to as "Clone 1." Clone 1, despite its crude personality, is surprisingly observant and often chides Hibiki for his perceived laziness or lack of seriousness. Their first encounter is with a single goblin, which Clone 1 bravely, albeit bare-handedly, tackles. The goblin, armed with a club, injures Clone 1, but the clone's ability to ignore pain allows it to incapacitate the goblin for Hibiki to finish off. This battle, though simple, highlights Hibiki's strategy of using his clone as a distraction and himself for the finishing blow, a tactic he calls the "You charge" strategy. After the goblin is defeated and turns into a magic stone, Clone 1 "resets" (dies and is revived by Hibiki using magic), lamenting that it couldn't finish its dying words. Hibiki, unfazed, immediately orders the revived clone to continue carrying the shell.
Hibiki checks his status, revealing his low level and lack of combat experience, which frustrates him as he desires more clones and companions. He soon encounters four goblins, a significantly more dangerous situation. He employs his usual tactic, using the Iron Turtle shell as a makeshift shield and ordering Clone 1 to act as a decoy. This results in Clone 1's repeated deaths and revivals, a cycle Hibiki repeats five times until he successfully escapes the Area with the Iron Turtle shell.
Following this ordeal, Hibiki reflects on his reincarnation and the nature of this new world. He learns about the active goddess who created Areas and magic systems to provide people with challenges and rewards. He also learns about the importance of magic stones as a fundamental resource, akin to electricity on Earth. Hibiki, a former net-game enthusiast, finds the concept of a god acting as a Game Master intriguing. He explains his decision to become an adventurer, driven by his desire for a life beyond the mundane and his dissatisfaction with his past life as a corporate drone. He chose the Infinite Sorcerer class, despite its reputation, believing in its potential.
Hibiki's primary goal is to become stronger and achieve the "Heavenly Rank," the highest tier of adventurers. However, his job class makes it difficult to find party members, as it's considered to have no future potential. He resorts to collecting valuable items and "scavenging" from defeated monsters to earn money. He accumulates 1 million Zeni, intending to buy a slave. His target is Tawawa, a 14-year-old, beautiful, Level 7 Magic Swordsman, whom he desires for both her combat potential and her appearance.
Upon visiting the slave trader, Hibiki discovers a liquidation sale. He learns that Tawawa is priced at 1 million Zeni, a bargain for her abilities. However, he encounters another potential slave, Fururu Zelto, a shy, Level 1 Space Mage, also priced at 1 million Zeni. Space Mages are rare and highly sought after due to their "Subspace Box" skill, which allows for safe storage and travel. Fururu, however, is known as the "Jinx," having been bought by four previous adventurers who all met disastrous ends. Despite his initial desire for Tawawa, Hibiki is intrigued by Fururu's unique skill and the potential it offers for his own survival and growth. He ultimately decides to purchase Fururu, seeing the strategic advantage of a Space Mage who can provide a safe haven for him and his clones.
Hibiki's decision to buy Fururu is met with laughter from other slaves, who mock his ambition of becoming a Heavenly Rank adventurer as an Infinite Sorcerer. Undeterred, Hibiki declares his intention to become the strongest and announces his partnership with Fururu, whom he designates as his "Vice-Captain" and part of his "Army."
The next day, Hibiki, Fururu, and his first clone, now named "Ichigo" (or "Itchy"), venture into an Area. Hibiki explains his strategy: he and Fururu will hide in the Subspace Box while Ichigo fights. Ichigo, initially hesitant and complaining about being a disposable clone, is equipped with a bamboo spear crafted by Hibiki. The bamboo spear proves surprisingly effective, allowing Ichigo to defeat goblins. Hibiki's strategy relies on his clones' ability to respawn and his own ability to recover magic within the Subspace Box, giving them immense sustain.
As they continue their goblin hunt, Hibiki's level increases to 2, granting him an additional clone summon. He also begins crafting weapons from bamboo, realizing the cost-effectiveness of this approach for his disposable clones. The party progresses to a more dangerous "Goblin Labyrinth" area, where they continue to hunt goblins, with Hibiki, Fururu, and the clones utilizing the Subspace Box and bamboo spears to their advantage. Hibiki's level eventually rises to 3, increasing his clone summon capacity to three. The chapters end with Hibiki's party efficiently clearing goblins, showcasing their growing strength and unique combat synergy.
