The story begins with the protagonist, who is about to turn twelve, attending a cherry blossom viewing party with prominent figures from politics and business. He realizes with shock that he has transmigrated into the body of Mizukoto Harutaka, a character from the popular RPG "Fantasy Campus" (FanCan). This realization overwhelms him, and he faints.
Upon waking, Harutaka finds himself in a well-appointed room, attended by multiple doctors. He is confused by the attention, as his past self would have accepted it without question. However, his current self, retaining memories of a normal college student, is hesitant. The Mizukoto family is revealed to be incredibly powerful and wealthy, capable of ruining the lives of those who displease them. The doctors, after a thorough examination, diagnose him with mild anemia or overwork, a diagnosis Harutaka finds questionable given his supposed perfect lifestyle.
Tanabe, Harutaka's father's secretary, arrives and insists on using advanced healing magic, "Ex-Heal," despite the doctors' reassurances. Harutaka, aware of the significant burden Ex-Heal places on a healer and its high cost, refuses, stating he knows it's nothing serious. This refusal shocks everyone, as the original Harutaka was known for frequently using Ex-Heal for trivial reasons, even once causing a protagonist's loved one to die due to a healer being incapacitated by a previous Ex-Heal usage. Harutaka, determined to avoid the original Harutaka's tragic fate, which includes dying by falling down stairs, resolves to avoid the "landmines" that lead to his character's downfall. He returns to the party, feigning play with other children while strategizing.
The narrative then delves into Harutaka's in-game stats, revealing exceptionally high Attack Magic and Speed, but critically low Physical Defense. This stat distribution explains his role as a glass cannon, powerful but fragile, and his quick defeat in the game. Despite his potential, the original Harutaka chose the Magic Defense type instead of the synergistic Attack Magic type, and his tendency to act alone, leading to his in-game demise. The protagonist also learns about the Mizukoto family's history with water magic and Harutaka's father's legacy, which influenced his choice.
Harutaka's past actions, including buying out limited-edition Sky Football shoes using his family's influence, are revealed. This leads to an encounter with Hayase Aya, a key character in the game and a talented Sky Football player, who is furious about the shoe incident. Harutaka, seeking to mend his ways and make allies, offers Aya one of the shoes and invites her to his home.
At the Mizukoto mansion, they meet Fumizuki Kaori, a young maid who is revealed to be the protagonist's older sister, destined to die from illness. Harutaka, realizing this, insists on a more thorough medical examination for Kaori, using the recent earthquake and her being shielded by Kaori as an excuse. He also learns that the Mizukoto family has excellent healthcare benefits for their employees, ensuring Kaori's treatment.
The story concludes with Harutaka and Aya heading to Towa Magic Academy. Harutaka is determined to live a disciplined life, focusing on studies and sports, avoiding his predecessor's mistakes. Their journey is interrupted by a "Dark" possessed salaryman, whom they must confront. Despite their inexperience with magic, they manage to defeat the Dark, with Aya's physical prowess and Harutaka's ability to withstand magical attacks proving effective. Harutaka reflects on the Dark's nature and the importance of his own magical capabilities, even without formal training.
