Kagetsu Nishiki, an unremarkable 23-year-old corporate drone, starts playing "Real Life Online"—a VRMMO commonly known as RL.

However, the job he chose was "Merchant," which was considered the most disparaged class in RL.

One day, while on what he decided would be his final quest, he is ambushed by player killers.

In a desperate two-on-one situation, he awakens a hidden Merchant skill.

After using that skill to turn the tables on his attackers, a certain desire begins to sprout within him—"I want to fight stronger opponents."

Thereafter, as he gleefully challenges and defeats PKs, takes down formidable bosses, and generally causes a stir, he begins to draw significant attention in RL—and from other Merchants who had previously quit the game.
