The story begins with Nagakura Kanae, a second-year high school student and captain of the kendo club, experiencing a daily torment of being doused with water by jealous female classmates. Despite this, she maintains an undefeated record and is popular among her juniors and even some boys. Her classmate, Osanai Yuki, a popular "refreshing type" boy and fellow kendo club member, expresses concern about her drenched state. In the girls' locker room, she encounters Sahara Iori, another kendo club member, who is also admired by many.
Kanae's day takes a tragic turn when, while crossing the street with her childhood friend Mori Haruhi, she is pushed into the path of an oncoming truck by the same two girls who harassed her earlier. She dies, only to find herself in a white space before the goddess Sorefia. Sorefia, the main deity of another world called Luzelheim, explains that Kanae has been chosen for reincarnation. Despite Kanae's initial shock and desire for a peaceful life, Sorefia informs her that rejection is not an option. Sorefia describes Luzelheim as a world rich in magic, with races like elves and dwarves, and grants Kanae various abilities, including growth correction and all-attribute magic aptitude. However, a sudden interruption by another deity, Alberia, causes a dark hole to appear, and Kanae falls through, her reincarnation into a human being thwarted.
Kanae awakens in a vast grassland, discovering she has been reborn not as a human, but as a young Stormwind Dragon, a Primal Dragon species. Her status reveals powerful innate abilities like "King of All Winds" and "Master of Water and Thunder," along with skills like "Appraisal" and "Item Box." Alberia, the Demon God who manages monsters, reveals himself as the one who orchestrated her reincarnation as a dragon, explaining that the world needed a new Stormwind Dragon after the previous one died protecting the world from a conflict between three other Primal Dragons. This conflict was instigated by humans who, in their pursuit of development, destroyed nature. Alberia admits to his impulsive actions but claims they were necessary to stabilize the world, and he has been subtly protecting Kanae. He grants her the name Venivel and a "Blessing of the Demon God," significantly boosting her stats and granting her the ability to integrate skills.
Venivel begins to adapt to her new form, practicing her abilities and hunting low-level monsters like slimes and goblins. She quickly gains experience and new skills, including "Wind Blade" and "Ground Wave." Alberia's intervention also grants her the ability to integrate skills, leading to the acquisition of "Parallel Being." She learns about the world's structure, its races, and the existence of adventurers and a Demon King.
Venivel encounters a cat-like beastkin named Chirutii and an old human named Yuda, who were being attacked by hobgoblins. Venivel intervenes, demonstrating her immense power and inadvertently revealing her dragon nature to them. Yuda, a former noble who left his country due to political unrest, recognizes her as a Stormwind Dragon and offers to teach her magic. Venivel accepts, eager to learn and grow.
As Venivel trains with Yuda and Chirutii, she learns more about the world, including its three continents: Armanius (inhabited by beastkin and other demi-humans), Flemyu (home to humans, elves, and dwarves), and Gigonivia (the demon continent). She also learns about the concept of adventurers and the cyclical nature of Demon Kings and heroes. Her growth is rapid, aided by her innate abilities and Alberia's blessings. She eventually evolves into a Stormwind Dragon, Second Form, with significantly increased stats and new skills.
Venivel's journey continues as she explores the world, encountering various monsters and learning to control her powers. She develops a strong bond with Yuda and Chirutii, who become her companions. The narrative hints at a larger conflict involving the Demon King and the potential for Venivel to play a crucial role in the world's future. She also learns that the Primal Dragons are essential for maintaining the world's balance and that her existence is vital. The story concludes with Venivel, now a powerful dragon, embarking on her journey to understand her role and the world she inhabits, while the gods observe her progress with a mixture of concern and anticipation.
