Almark, a boy who has lived as a member of a mercenary band in the war-torn northern lands, enrolls in a peaceful southern magic academy, following a promise made to his father.
Life at the academy, which he finally reached after a long journey, was entirely alien to the world he had known until now.
Faced with such a stark contrast, Almark finds himself constantly bewildered.
Yet, through repeated failures and with the help of his friends and teachers, he gradually begins to show glimpses of his talent.
