The narrative picks up with Rufus Mafal, a 475-year-old Heavenly Winged race woman with a male consciousness, finding herself in a world 200 years after her reign. She was once the world's strongest, feared as the "Black-Winged Hegemon," and now seeks to reunite her scattered subordinates, the Twelve Star Heavens. Rufus is bewildered by her current situation, having been a Japanese male gamer playing "Exgate Online" before being transported into the game world as her own character. Her original personality was ruthless, but her current self is confused and overwhelmed.
Accompanying Rufus is Deena, a half-elf who serves as her strategist. Deena is a capable mage, skilled in water and gold magic, and possesses a hidden identity as "Venus," one of the Seven Luminaries of the Demon Tribe, whom she secretly manipulated to attack Rufus. Deena claims to have been a "test player" like Rufus, but her true nature remains a mystery.
The story then introduces several of the Twelve Star Heavens, Rufus's former subordinates. Aries, a sheep monster, is fiercely loyal and seeks revenge on humanity for taking Rufus. Libra, a powerful golem created by Mizar, is a ruthless killing machine equipped with advanced weaponry. Aigokeros, a Lord Demon from Hellheim, is a cruel creature captured by Rufus for control. Parthenos, a former Heavenly Winged race member and Rufus's confidante, is now deceased but her spirit lingers. Virgo, Parthenos's successor, is a cheerful Heavenly Winged girl who has recently inherited her powers. Karkinos, a crab-like demon, is a defensive specialist. Skorpius, a scorpion monster, is a yandere stalker obsessed with Rufus. Castor and Pollux are the Gemini twins, with Castor being a pirate-like commander and Pollux possessing the skill to revive fallen souls. Leon, a lion-like demon, is the strongest in terms of raw combat power. Sagittarius, an archer, wields an unavoidable arrow attack. Taurus, a bull demon, guards a seal. Aquarius, a sentient water jug, manifests as a young girl and is lazy. Pisces, an elf-like demon, rules a vast sea nation and is infatuated with Rufus.
The narrative also touches upon the Seven Heroes, who once defeated Rufus, and the "Hero Faction," including South Cross Seiy, a summoned Japanese man who struggles with the responsibility of power.
Rufus, now inhabiting her game character's body, finds herself in a castle surrounded by people bowing to her. She is deeply confused, realizing she has been transported into the game world 200 years after her character's defeat. Her character, Rufus Mafal, was a Hegemon who united the world but was ultimately defeated by heroes. The game's "Novel System" documented these events, making Rufus a legendary figure.
Upon waking, Rufus is disoriented by her female body and the regal attire. She struggles with her new voice and the archaic speech patterns, realizing she is involuntarily role-playing as Rufus. She learns from an elf that her "summoning" of a hero went awry, resulting in her own resurrection instead. Rufus, now a player in her own game, decides to explore this new world, seeking to understand the changes and potentially find other players who might have been transported.
Her first objective is to gather information. She and Deena travel to the trading city of Yudaril, where Rufus's notoriety as the "Black-Winged Hegemon" makes it difficult to find work. Deena suggests becoming adventurers, a low-status but accessible profession. They take on a quest to clear an orc nest, a task Rufus finds ironically appealing due to the "Orc Meat" item that boosts HP, a valuable commodity in the game.
Upon arriving at the orc nest, Rufus easily dispatches the orcs with her overwhelming power, demonstrating the significant decline in combat standards in this era compared to her game-playing days. She also learns that orcs, despite their appearance, have a peculiar breeding system requiring them to abduct females of other races for reproduction, but they treat their captives with surprising gentleness.
After completing the orc quest and securing funds, Rufus and Deena travel to the nation of Levatin, a "Land of Swords," and then to Svel, a nation founded by the Seven Hero Megrez. Svel is a center of learning and magic, rich in mana, which Heavenly Winged races typically dislike. Rufus, however, feels no ill effects. She plans to meet Megrez to gather information about the past 200 years and the fate of other players. She learns about the world's structure, including the four districts of Svel and the magical monorail system. Rufus also discovers that her former subordinates, the Twelve Star Heavens, are still active, with some having joined the Demon King's forces, prompting her to add their retrieval and control to her goals. She also learns that the Seven Heroes are still alive, and she intends to meet them to understand if they are also players.
