The story begins with Kusunoki Keiichiro, a recently deceased salaryman, finding himself in a void of white light. A mechanical female voice informs him he is "Sample 12" and that his skills, including those from his past life, are being transferred to a new body. He is then abruptly transported.
Keiichiro awakens in a forest, feeling the sensation of grass and a physical body. He discovers he is inhabiting a new, muscular adult male body, significantly taller than his previous one. His clothes are simple, rustic, and unfamiliar. He finds a large knife and an empty bag on his belt. Realizing the fantastical nature of his situation, he recalls his son's talk of "isekai ten'ei" (reincarnation in another world).
While exploring, Keiichiro stumbles upon a river and, recalling game mechanics, utters "Status." A status screen appears before his eyes, detailing his name (Keiichiro Kusunoki), race (Human), age (26), and a list of skills: Fighting Lv. 3, Four Great Element Magic (Fire, Water, Wind, Earth Lv. 1), Space Magic Lv. 1, Arithmetic Lv. 6, Psychic Power Lv. 3, Multilingual Understanding, and Analysis Lv. 1. He also has the titles "Gifted Talent" and "Soul of Another World," which solidify his belief that he has indeed been transported to another world.
Over the next few days, Keiichiro experiments with his new abilities. He learns to create small flames, water streams, gusts of wind, and small stones with his elemental magic, which improve with use. His Psychic Power allows him to levitate and throw stones with surprising force, even managing to catch fish for food. He also discovers a "Short Sword Technique" skill after practicing with his knife and a "Throwing" skill after throwing stones. He learns that the forest is called the "Ouma Forest," suggesting the presence of monsters.
His first encounter with a monster is an "Agri-Spider," a large, spider-like creature. Using his Psychic Power and throwing skills, he defeats it, earning experience points and leveling up. He also obtains "drop items" like the spider's fangs and carapace, and a "Magic Crystal," further reinforcing the game-like nature of this world. He discovers "Space Magic" can function as an inventory system, allowing him to store items.
Keiichiro continues his journey, practicing his skills and encountering more monsters, including more Agri-Spiders and later, "Sword-Clawed Apes" and "Needle Boars." He develops new combat strategies, combining ranged attacks with close-quarters combat using a "Sword-Clawed Ape's Scythe" which he acquired. He also discovers "Life Magic" after intentionally getting injured and healing himself, which proves invaluable. He learns to combine elemental magic for more powerful attacks, like a "Water Ray" and "Stone Bullet."
After several days of travel, Keiichiro uses "Clairvoyance" to survey his surroundings and spots what appears to be a walled city in the distance, offering a glimmer of hope. He also encounters a young elf named Neimiria by a lake, who recognizes his lightning magic as a powerful technique called "Thunder Dragon Roaring Flash." Keiichiro, wary of getting involved with someone who seems to have a hidden agenda and a strong "main heroine" aura, politely excuses himself to continue towards the city.
He continues to level up and acquire new skills, including "Lightning Magic" and "Light Magic," expanding his elemental abilities. He also gains "Magic Power Control" and "Magic Power Compression." His journey is marked by frequent monster battles, which he uses to hone his skills and gain experience. He eventually encounters a Wyvern, a formidable dragon-like creature, which he defeats using a powerful combination of his enhanced Water Ray and magic power manipulation, earning him the title "Wyvern Slayer." The story concludes with Keiichiro's continued journey towards the distant city, his skills constantly growing in this fantastical new world.
