The story follows Henry Thorne, a former adventurer of the "Hero" rank who has left the front lines of the war against the Demon Lord. He now seeks a more peaceful life, taking on easier monster extermination jobs and gathering materials.
Chapter 3 begins with Henry completing a hunt of Wild Bears, collecting their claws as valuable monster parts. He then joins Thomas, a merchant, on his carriage journey. Henry explains his past as an adventurer in Rigaleo, a front-line city, and his current status as a "Hero," one of the three adventurer ranks (Adventurer, Hero, Legend). He also mentions knowing the "Eight Heroes," legendary figures of the current era. Henry reveals he left the front lines because he achieved his objective and desires a relaxed life in a safer region.
They arrive at the beautiful city of Floatia, known as the "City of Flowers and Water." Thomas, grateful for Henry's earlier protection, offers to introduce him to a reputable inn. On the way, they encounter two adventurers, Cyril and Jend. Cyril, a spirited young mage, is immediately fascinated by Henry's "Hero" status and bombards him with questions about his past exploits. Jend, a more reserved swordsman, is also curious. They agree to guide Henry to the church, where he can complete his transfer procedures.
At the church, which also functions as a tavern, Henry witnesses Cyril's enthusiastic, albeit somewhat clumsy, interaction with the system for receiving divine rewards from the "Heavenly Treasure Vault." Cyril receives a "Soothe Wind Hood," an uncommon item with a rather impractical effect, much to her disappointment and the amusement of other patrons. Jend, meanwhile, receives more practical items. The narrative then delves into the world-building of the Grandis God, who bestows weapons and items upon believers who defeat monsters, with ranks ranging from Common to Legend. The system's randomness and the occasional uselessness of divine items are highlighted.
The next day, Henry, Cyril, and Jend embark on their first adventure together in the Floatia forest. They discuss their backgrounds: Cyril and Jend are sixteen, childhood friends, and both have connections to the local lord. Cyril is a powerful mage who uses singing as a catalyst for her spells, while Jend is a skilled swordsman wielding a fire-imbued sword. Henry, a spear user, also demonstrates his versatile "Ruyi Heavenly Spear," an Epic-ranked divine artifact that can change its length and shape. They also learn about the concept of "Magic" versus "Sorcery," with Magic being more potent but requiring a specific mental trigger, like Cyril's singing.
Their first joint quest is to assist with land reclamation outside Floatia. Cyril's powerful magic proves incredibly effective at clearing land, while Henry and Jend handle heavy lifting and other tasks. They successfully complete the work ahead of schedule, impressing the locals and earning a bonus. The quest highlights the practical application of magic and the importance of teamwork.
Later, Henry learns that Cyril and Jend are not romantically involved, contrary to his initial assumption. Jend reveals he is motivated to become a Hero because the person he likes said she would only marry a Hero. Henry, amused by this straightforward reason, decides to support Jend's ambition.
The group continues their adventures, facing various monsters like Killer Dogs and Wild Bears. Henry's experience and tactical approach, combined with Cyril's raw power and Jend's steady combat skills, make them a formidable team. They also encounter a young girl named Tio, who possesses a rare "Capacity Expansion" divine artifact, allowing her to carry an improbable amount of goods.
The narrative also touches upon the stark contrast between Floatia and Henry's former home, Rigaleo. Rigaleo is a heavily fortified city constantly under siege, where adventurers are essential for survival and life is perilous. Floatia, in contrast, offers a more peaceful environment with readily available resources and a less demanding adventuring scene. Henry finds himself enjoying the slower pace of life and the camaraderie he develops with Cyril and Jend.
The chapters also explore the mechanics of the Grandis Church and its role in managing adventurers, including the quest system and the process of becoming a Hero. Henry, despite his past achievements, finds himself adapting to a new lifestyle, enjoying good food and drink, and forming genuine bonds with his new companions. He also reflects on his own lack of hobbies and the practicalities of daily life, such as cleaning and laundry, which he finds tedious. The story concludes with Henry and his companions continuing their adventures, with Henry finding a renewed sense of purpose and enjoyment in his life in Floatia.
