The protagonist, a devoted fan of the RPG "Brave of Asterisk" (Bureasu), dies from overwork and is reincarnated into the game's world. To his dismay, he is not the protagonist, Allen, but a lowly gate guard named Silva. His primary motivation is to live a peaceful life and not interfere with the game's original storyline, which he deeply respects.
The story begins a month before the main plot of Bureasu, during an event known as "Kusabi no Hi" (Day of the Wedge). During this event, demons unexpectedly unite and attack the Kingdom of Zelenia. Silva's unit is dispatched to intercept a demon, a spider-like monster. While his comrades engage in a delaying tactic, Silva, aiming to avoid attention, feigns combat. However, the demon unexpectedly flees towards a young girl, whom Silva recognizes as Charles Orland, a crucial character in Bureasu. Acting on impulse, Silva intervenes and defeats the demon with a powerful technique, "Komagami" (Whirlwind Fang), from the Zelenia-style swordsmanship. This unexpected act of heroism leads to his first interaction with a major character, leaving him regretting his deviation from the script.
Days later, Silva is still troubled by his actions. He is relieved that Charles, whom he affectionately calls "Charu-taso," has kept his secret. He reflects on Charles's character, her tragic backstory, and her desire to prove her worth. While Silva is determined to remain an observer, Charles unexpectedly seeks him out to thank him. During their conversation, Charles questions how Silva knows her name. Silva, flustered, fabricates a story about seeing her name on a guest list at a social event. Charles, though initially suspicious, accepts his explanation. She then asks for his name, and Silva reveals himself to be Silva. He is overjoyed when Charles smiles at him, but quickly realizes the danger of their growing connection to the game's narrative. Despite his resolve to stay detached, Silva finds himself unable to refuse Charles's request to stay with him, leading to further interactions.
Charles begins visiting Silva daily, finding amusement in teasing him. She reveals that the main story of Bureasu has begun, and she has enrolled in the Zelenia Royal Hero Academy. She mentions forming a party with Allen, the protagonist, who she finds somewhat intimidating, describing him as trying to "corner" the female party members. Silva recognizes this as a potential "galge route" in the game. He reassures Charles, advising her to use Allen's strength and confide in him when things are difficult. Their conversation is interrupted by Allen's arrival, who seems to perceive Silva as a rival, displaying a subtle possessiveness towards Charles.
Later, Silva is summoned by Elda Snowwhite, the formidable commander of the Zelenia First Holy Knights. Elda suspects Silva of defeating the demon during "Kusabi no Hi," recognizing his Zelenia-style swordsmanship. Despite Silva's attempts to deflect, Elda is convinced of his strength. She tries to recruit him into the Holy Knights, but Silva adamantly refuses, fearing increased interaction with the game's main characters and the potential to disrupt the plot. Elda, frustrated by his refusal, resorts to a forced recruitment attempt by presenting him with an enlistment application. However, she ultimately backs down, instead tasking him with a mission: to ensure a problematic candidate named Brazio Bardlay fails the upcoming Holy Knight entrance exam. Brazio is described as a "scum" who intends to manipulate the Knights.
Silva, accompanied by Charles, begins investigating Brazio in the city's entertainment district. They learn that Brazio is the son of a powerful noble family involved in various criminal activities. During their search, they encounter Brazio, who arrogantly dismisses Silva and attempts to flirt with Charles. Silva, angered by Brazio's disrespect towards Charles, declares himself her bodyguard. Brazio, insulted by this perceived slight, orders his former Holy Knight guards to confront Silva. Silva easily defeats them, revealing his superior combat skills.
During the Holy Knight entrance exam, Silva is pitted against Brazio. Brazio, overconfident due to his superior equipment, is quickly defeated by Silva, who demonstrates his mastery of Zelenia-style swordsmanship and the use of magic enhancement. Silva's decisive victory over Brazio, who was equipped with rare Orihalcon armor, impresses Elda, who acknowledges Silva's ability to manipulate magic. Despite this, Silva continues to refuse Elda's recruitment offers, much to her exasperation. Elda, having failed to recruit him, reveals that Brazio's defeat has thwarted his plans to infiltrate the Holy Knights.
Silva is then assigned to assist at the busy South Gate due to increased demon-related incidents. He encounters a fellow guard, Crow, who exhibits discriminatory behavior towards male visitors. Silva, frustrated by Crow's attitude and the increased workload, contemplates his situation. He is then approached by Kaguya, a "Special Class" hero, who claims to be his wife. Kaguya is a powerful and eccentric character, and her appearance hints at future complications.
