The protagonist, a high school student named Akito Hibino, awakens in a forest, having seemingly been abducted. Initially panicked, he quickly prioritizes survival, seeking water, food, and shelter. His immediate concern is a large, blue-furred dog that appears. To his surprise, the dog is not aggressive but rather friendly, even acting as a cushion when Akito falls. Akito names the dog Sora, and they form a bond, with Sora guiding Akito to a cave with a water source, solving two of his immediate needs.
The narrative then shifts to Sora's perspective, revealing her to be a divine wolf, the king of the forest, who initially intended to attack Akito but was captivated by his scent and kindness. She pledges her loyalty to him, seeing him as her master.
The following days see Akito and Sora establishing a base in the cave. Sora proves invaluable, hunting a boar for food, though Akito struggles with its preparation. Their lives are complicated by the arrival of Alicia, a Sister from the Tsereul Kingdom, who is a "Saint" and possesses significant strength. Alicia, initially wary of Sora, is drawn to Akito's gentle nature and his perceived vulnerability. She offers to cook the boar and accompany them, revealing her mission to investigate a prophecy about a man appearing in the forbidden forest.
Alicia's presence introduces further complications. She exhibits an unusual fixation on Akito, often misinterpreting his words and actions through a lens of romantic desire. She also reveals that men are extremely rare in this world, protected and highly sought after by various factions, leading to Akito's fear of being exploited.
Their group expands with the arrival of Silvia, an ancient dragon who, after a humbling encounter with Sora, becomes a resident of the forest and eventually takes on a human form to stay with Akito. A fairy named Lupinus also joins them, capable of using magic to build them a proper dwelling within the cave.
The group learns that Akito is from another world and that returning is difficult, requiring the goddess to regain her lost power. The goddess, who communicates with Alicia, is portrayed as struggling with her diminished influence and the world's declining faith.
Meanwhile, rumors of a kind man in the forbidden forest spread, attracting adventurers and causing unrest. A royal princess, concerned about the church's potential resurgence if the goddess's prophecy is confirmed, dispatches soldiers to kill the man.
The narrative highlights the unique dynamics within Akito's group: Sora's fierce loyalty and possessiveness, Alicia's romantic obsession and protective instincts, Silvia's prideful yet affectionate nature, and Lupinus's naive helpfulness. They form an alliance to protect Akito from unwanted attention and information.
Akito grapples with his new reality, the presence of mythical creatures, and the complex social structure of this world. He desires to return home but acknowledges the difficulty. The story concludes with Akito and his companions settling into their new life in the cave, with the looming threat of external forces seeking Akito and the challenge of the goddess regaining her power to potentially send him home.
