A dragon that has lived for 5000 years sounds impressive, but that particular dragon was an entirely harmless herbivore.

However, due to its unnecessarily massive body and imposing demeanor, it was mistaken for an executive of the Demon Lord's army, and a sacrificial maiden was offered from a nearby village.

The dragon, fundamentally timid and weak-willed, tried to send the maiden away, but the inexplicably spirited sacrificial maiden refused to budge.

Left with no choice, it told a white lie, saying, "Alright, I've eaten a bit of your soul, so you can go home now." However, the extremely impressionable maiden misunderstood that she had thereby become the dragon's follower.

And incredibly enough, she began to display strange powers, still under this misconception—and the powerless dragon, by some mistake, ends up raising the banner of rebellion against the Demon Lord's army.

Rebellion or not, it was never anyone's subordinate to begin with.
